<USS Avalon> Reacquainting Part One

Reacquainting Part One
by Junior Lieutenant Elissabeth Marksbury and Junior Lieutenant James Monroe

As Lissi was escorted back to her quarters, she took careful note of her
surroundings. Not a thing was familiar, but at least she would know how to get
back to sickbay.

"Here you are," Ensign Wright told her as they arrived at her door. She just
looked at him.

"You have to vocally ID yourself," he explained.

"Oh," she said. "This is ...what was my name again?"

"Marksbury. Lt. Elissabeth Marksbury."

"This is Lt. Marksbury. Uh, please open the door."

"Voice Identification confirmed." A mechanical voice told her as the door
swished open.

"You'll be okay, then?" the Ensign asked.

"I hope so," Lissi sighed, turning to face her home. The door closed behind
her and she felt so very alone.

She walked around the room running her hand over things; the table, sofa, the
bed, hoping to jog at least one memory of ever having been here. She noticed a
light flashing on her console. She had messages. Four of them, to be precise.

The first two were from a Lt. Maturin stationed on Earth. They simply said,
"You're late."

Hmm, that helped, she thought sarcasticallly, could you be anymore cryptic,
Lt.? Sighing, she moved onto the third message.

"Hey, Lissi, it's been a long day and I sure would like to see your smile. How
'bout I take you up on that movie?" It was signed 'Monroe'.

The fourth was from the cryptic Lt. again. He was obviously no help. Taking a
deep breath, she decided to call this Monroe. Maybe he would know something.

"Computer... um, relay a message to Monroe." Just as Lissi was prepared to send
a message of her own, the screen flared up on her terminal.

"Hey, Lissi. How are ya? Haven't seen you on duty or anything."

Lissi just looked at the guy, trying to see if anything 'clicked'. He was
cute, had really pretty eyes and a nice smile. "Are you Monroe? We've met?"

"Funny, Lissi. Of course we met. You were lost on the way to sickbay... we met
for lunch, cold food, talked about dinner sometime... and that was about the
last I heard from you. You really don't remember me?"

"I'm sorry. I've been...sick, I guess. I mean, I woke up in sickbay. They
said I was fine, but I don't remember anything!" The fear and confusion welled
up in the form of tears and Lissi looked away from the screen.

"Hey, now, it'll be okay," he tried reassuring her, though he felt completely
inept. He wondered what it would be like to not remember anything at all, and
curioius as to her story. "Look, how 'bout I take you around the ship? My
shift starts in about three hours, so we have time. Maybe you'll remember
something then."

Lissi sniffed before turning back to the screen. "Thank you. I don't know
anyone and you're the only person I've heard from besides this Lt. Maturin who
left these cryptic messages. I don't mean to be a burden.."

"Nonsense," he reassured her. "I sent you a message asking to spend time with
you, didn't I?

She nodded.

"Then it's settled. I'll be there in a few minutes." Monroe clicked off and
accessed the ships communications. A Lieutenant Maturin; he heard rumors of a
time displacement and that two uniforms from the future were stuck. One of
them- Holden had told a little bit- was a man, Maturin, staying with Intel.
Everything else was classified.

"Monroe, what the hell are you doing? Don't you have something to shoot or
place under custody?" Holden's greeting was slightly less than warm.

"In a few hours, we'll see. What can you tell me of Mr. Maturin?"

Holden looked at him, "Sorry, James, that's level ten classified. Even I was
told few details."

"That means you know."

Holden sighed, "You're a persistent boy, you know that? Here's the jist, Ms.
Marksbury is on the Avalon as an Intel officer. Maturin is her contact. That is
it. You want anymore, get a better rank and talk to me."

Monroe smiled, "I owe ya one. Alright. I've gotta go. Catch ya later." He
clicked off, rushed in front of mirror, making sure he was at least
presentable. His hair could use a cut, but it was alright. He then rushed out
to meet Lissi, getting directions from the computer.
