"All right, all right," said Mahler, picking up a PADD and opening
the proper file. He headed from the office toward the exam room. "Hello,
Ensign Erridim," he said. "If you'd come over to this biobed? Now, what
seems to be the problem, if any?"
Talea smiled slightly, carefully grounded the loaded duffel and sat on
the biobed as requested before speaking. "You and I have never met, 'tis
true, but it is primarily because for too long, I had no confidence
around men, and for reasons that would give any sane, caring person
nightmares to contemplate." She chuckled. "But I'm much better, thanks
to Doctor Cazook and Sergeant Ranger, amongst others; I also managed to
help Admiral Ketchum come aboard without us dropping to impulse first."
There was understandable pride in the simple statement, and mild
amusement in the next. "And I must admit I was very nervous being on the
Bridge when he first came in, but that too passed." She gestured to the
duffel. "This is the stuff I had in the special room constructed for me
while I was stasis-locked. Had I not had that room..." She shuddered.
"Wouldn't have been fun."
Her eyes dimmed as she looked down, and it became apparent she was
troubled, which was confirmed by her next words. "I have the strangest
feeling my life is about to change radically, and perhaps not for the
best." She shrugged lightly. "I've learned to trust these feelings, for
they are too often true."
