After his night talking to Lyta, James wasn't sure how he felt about reporting for duty. He knew that there would most likely be nothing for him to do, unless of course something had changed since he last appeared on the bridge.

Changing into his uniform, he looked in the mirror and checked to make sure everything was in order. The least he could do was look professional. Once he was satisfied that all was in order he made his way to the new bridge. Upon his arrival he noticed a new figure standing at his console.

The figure was blue and had attennae coming out of the top of his head. Who in the hell is at my console and better yet what is he doing there? Trying not to appear too shocked at the newcomer James walked over to the tactical console.

"Uh, excuse me, is there something I can help you with?" He had yet to notice the Lt.'s pips on the stranger's uniform.
"Let me see, no I believe I am more than familiar with the ship's systems. Oh, wait, I sometimes forget that humans find it colorful to obfuscate their meanings. If you are trying to indicate that this is your toy and that I should not play with it, let me tell you that it is actually my toy now, so to speak. I am Senior Lieutenant Zarak, the Chief Tactical Officer."

"As I am aware that you are reporting for duty, I will brief you on what I have done. I have completed a level one diagnostic on all tactical and communication systems. Phaser's have been re calibrated to a variance of less than 3 cm at 50 Kilometers. Our Subspace Communication Array has now been improved to increase efficiency by 3.127%. The torpedo tubes do not load fast enough, in my opinion. I have asked Engineering to look at the problem so that I can furnish a report to the XO. I am still awaiting their response."

"You may take over lieutenant. I will be in my quarters if needed."

James watched as the Tactical officer left the bridge. What the hell did he mean by Lieutenant? Doesn't he know what ensign pip's look like? Better yet where the hell did they find this guy?

After listening to the obtuse verbal abuse given, James walked over to the console. Upon it he saw a box that had his name on it. Opening it, he couldn't believe his eyes. Tapping his comm badge he called Lyta.

"Lyta, you won't believe this. I have been promoted to Jr. Lieutenant. You also won't believe the bafoon that is the new Chief Tactical Officer. I can't talk now but we will after shift."

James placed the extra pip on his collar and stood a little straighter. Now if he could only figure out how he was supposed to get along with this new chief.
