 "Picking Up A Distress Call"
Captain Ketchum, CmdrSkyler, Ensigns Michaelson and Henderson

Skyler left the memorial and made her way back to the bridge where she took
her seat. She looked around and saw that Lyta was at Helm and James was at
Tactical. Looking at the view screen it looked as it did the last time she
looked at it.

"Status report?"

"We are proceeding on course at warp 4 with no obvious disturbances or
changes Commander." Lyta kept her eyes on the controls and on the screen.

"No changes to report from tactical Ma'am," reported James.

"Good, let me know if anything changes." Skyler remained in her seat going
over the memorial and the words that Keith had said. Sometimes that man could
surprise her. A voice broke her out of her contemplation.

"Commander, I am picking up a distress call approximately 10 light years
from our present location." James voice was just a little panicky.

"Calm down James. Can you decipher it?"

"No Ma'am. It is like nothing I have ever heard before. It is just a bunch
of clicks and ticks. I have run it through the computer and even it is having
trouble decoding it."

Skyler thought for a moment then looked at Lyta, "Change course to intercept
distress signal, James send all information regarding the signal to science
to see if they can figure it out. That includes Cadet Forester and Sgt. Major
Williams. We need that signal deciphered so we can understand what the hell
they are telling us."

James sent all the information to both Cadet Forester and Sgt. Major
Williams. Hopefully between the two of them they could figure out the language
before the Avalon reached the stranded ship.

"Captain, just wanted to let you know we have picked up a distress call
approximately 10 light yrs away and have altered course to intercept."

"Understood, Commander, I will be up shortly." Keith walked along, he had
to make a stop before getting to the bridge.
