<USS Avalon> "One Last Night Out"

"One Last Night Out"
By: Yeoman Amelia Renaldi

“Your going to miss the city.”

“What’s there to miss about San Francisco? The cold? The rain? The fog? The

endless number of hills and bad traffic?”

“Then your going to miss working for the kleine ratte.”

“I most certainly will not miss working for Lieutenant Commander Hodges.”

Amelia turned away from the bag she was packing and looked at her best
friend and roommate. She smiled a little at the raven haired woman as she
walked
over and joined her on the bed. “I’ll tell you what I will miss.” Amelia
said
as she looked down at her friend who was laying on her stomach and clinching
Amelia’s favorite pillow.

“Having you pick of Starfleet co-eds?”

She couldn’t help but laugh as she pulled her pillow out from under the
other young woman. “No you stupid mädchen. I’ll miss you.”

The raven haired woman smiled as she tuned over on her side to look up at
her friend. “Damn right you will, Mia.”

Amelia rolled her eyes and laughed before going back to packing her things.
The Avalon had finally docked and she wanted to get up there as soon as
possible.

“Isn’t your new ship on shore leave?”

“Lee, we’ve been through this. I want to get to the ship so I can
familiarize myself with it and my new boss.” Amelia responded as she placed
the last
of her uniforms in a bag. She then moved on to packing what was left in her
closest and drawers. She and Lee had packed up what little trinkets she’d be
taking the day before. The rest of her things she would be leaving in the
apartment.

Lee sat up and flung her legs over the side of the bed. “Don’t you think
this Commander Skylark will be taking shore leave?”

“Commander Skyler.” Amelia corrected. “And I have no idea but I want to
be
prepared for when I start my official tour of duty.”

Lee got up off the bed and looked through Amelia’s closet. She quickly
pulled out a pair of black leather pants and white lace tank top that she held
up
for Amelia to see. She then smiled. “Your official tour of duty doesn’t
start
for at least a week. Which means you have no reason not to come out to the
club with me and Marc. Who knows maybe that cute little brunette from the
Academy will be there.”

Amelia looked at her friend for a moment. She had a point, there wasn’t
anything wrong with going out for one last night at the clubs, and meeting up
with that little number who made those stupid cadet uniforms look good would be

fun. Lord only knew when she’d get the chance to wake up next to a warm body
again.

“Well?” Lee asked as she watched the play of though broadcast from her
friend’s eyes.

“Alright. I’ll go with you guys. You can all buy me a round for good luck.
But I‘m on the first transport to the Avalon tomorrow.” Amelia finally said
as she took the clothes from her friend’s hands. “Now get out so I can get

dressed.”

It took just under an hour for Amelia to pour herself into her clothes and
to pull her long blonde hair up into a mass of messy strands that framed her
pretty face and drew out the crystal blue of her eyes. She loved the reaction
she got from people when she looked like this. It was the total opposite of
her good girl image.

When Amelia stepped out of the bedroom Lee smiled. “I see you pulled out the
stilettos. Looks like someone doesn’t plan on coming home tonight.”

Amelia smiled. “Not if she’s lucky.”

The club was generally dark. Laser lights, strobe lights, and mirrored balls
all worked together to give the people smashing into each other just enough
illumination to see their hands in front of their noses. The floor pounded
from the music and it’s enhanced bass. Amelia made her way over to the bar
and
ordered a cranberry juice and vodka before starting her prowl. It was her
custom to survey the lay of the land before venerating out among the masses.

From her perch on the second floor Amelia could see everything. She watched
as the boys in their tight white shorts and bare chests danced on the bar and
on small raised platforms. She watched as the girls in their tiny white
shorts, bikini tops, and sparkling white angel wings danced in suspended
cages.

It was from this spot high above the masses that allowed Amelia to see who
she was hoping to see. She smiled a full smile that curled the edges of her
lips and seemed to stretch clear to her eyes. She looked down at Tony, the man

working the bar, and gave him the look. She then nodded over to the small
cluster of tables in the back, away from the dance floor. Tony smiled up at her

and nodded. A moment later she watched as the broad shouldered bald man walked
a drink over to the brunette, placing it in front of her, whispering
something in her ear and then walking away.

The brunette looked up in Amelia’s direction and Amelia gave her a smile and
a nod before slipping into the crowd behind her. She then found Lee and Marc
and joined them for a while on the dance floor. She had made the first move,
the next move was the brunette’s.

Amelia walked up to the bar and waited for Tony to come over and take her
order for another cranberry and vodka, but didn’t get the chance. She smiled
coyly when a glass of the near blood red drink was placed in front of her. When

she turned her head the brunette was smiling back at her.

“Thanks for the drink.” Amelia said as she slipped a long painted nail into

the glass to stir around the ice.

“Returning the gesture.” The brunette offered.

From the dance floor Lee watched as Amelia inched her way closer to the
brunette she’d been staking for the last few weeks. She couldn’t help but
laugh
out loud when she saw her friend lean in and whisper into the brunette’s ear.

“What?” Her boyfriend asked.

Lee pointed to Amelia who was now heading for the door with the brunette in
tow. Marc laughed until something hit him. “She drove!”
