"Good, let them suffocate. That will show them that we dont tolerate
sympathizers. Or traitors for that matter." Alder's sudden annoyance with the
klaxons made him shout, making others on the bridge jump, "someone shut that
fucking alarm off!"
Red Alert was over with, and Alder went back to sitting on the General's chair.
The man's absence in the face of danger could be Alder's chance to secure his
opportunity to command this ship. But the General was no fool, and all attempts
to gain the position by bringing down the commanding officer had proved
fruitless. So far. This one incident had given the young Colonel the
opportunity he had been waiting for.
With a twisted smile that didn't fit well to his facial features, he commanded
the ship away from the Risa system.
"But our orders..."
Alder cut the ensign off, complete with a glare that she had question him,
"we'll exterminate them later. I want to be able to think exactly how we would
do it."
"We won't. Belay the colonels orders," Murgo said from the door of his ready
room, where he'd been standing, watching silently and apparently unnoticed,
monitoring the situation. "Thank you for remembering what our orders were. You
will now carry them out. I'm sure the colonel was just testing you to see
whether or not your loyalty to the fleet and obedience would have won out over
his suggested madness. He's wily like that." Casting a slightly annoyed glance
at Shimbrosus, he added," Well played, Alder, you almost had us all going. Now,
for God sakes, stop smiling like that, it makes you look sick. And get out of
my chair."
