<USS Avalon> "Observations"

"Observations"

Lieutenant Colonel Soliel

She sat alone at a corner table with a glass of wine and her favorite Anne
Rice novel. Soliel loved to sit alone in the lounge and watch the people who
came and went. It was rather amusing to sit there and glimpse at the surface
thoughts of those around her. She never went deep enough to be intrusive, she
simply allowed herself to pick up on the freely projected thoughts that most
humans donât know theyâre broadcasting. Solielâs attention span never
allowed her to delve to deeply either. For her, switching from mind to mind,
was
like switching the channel on those ancient television sets. The couple she
was
certainly watching was rather amusing.

The young man was having an affair with a young woman from security because
his girlfriend no longer desired him. What the young man didnât know was
that
his girlfriend no longer wished to sleep with him because she was in love
with and sleeping with the same young woman.

Not everyoneâs thoughts were about their sex lives or relationships. There
were a handful of people in the room whoâs minds were all geared towards
work.
These people, Soliel found the most boring so she didnât spend much time on
them. The blonde in near the door had bit from a Klingon opera stuck in her
head. The sandy haired young man behind the bar wanted a drink so badly he
could taste it. The redhead sitting near the window was home sick and missed
her
child and spouse. Soliel could relate to that one since she was missing
Ronni a great deal lately.

Soliel sighed deeply as she picked up her book. Not much entertainment in
the lounge tonight, so she opted to actually read the book rather then using
it
a cover for her spying. She made it through a whole chapter before the
lounge doors opened again. She watched as Markus walked in with a lovely young
woman on his arm. She watched them a few moments before catching Markusâ
eye. He
was much happy then heâd been while in her service. She picked up her wine
glass and titled it toward him as she gave him an approving smile and slight
nod.

Returning to her book, Soliel was just about to continue reading when
something clouded her mind for a moment. It was a strange mix of emotions that
came
across in a hurried jumble. A wide spectrum of positive and negative
responses that ebbed with hints of amusement and darkness. What is that girl
up too?

Though it had blown across her mind like a spring breeze, Soliel was still
able to tell that she was sensing Vevay. A brief tang of something near the
end of the jumble tickled the part of Soliel that became a protective lioness.
She would not act on what sheâd sensed, because she knew that if she were
needed Vevay would call out to her, but Soliel made up her mind to more
attentive just in case the silly girl got in over her head.
