"No Matter Where You Go ..."
Sr. Lt. Moreya
2006:08:13
"... there you are." A sentiment from an Earth wit, several hundred
years ago. Yet somehow it fit this moment quite well, Moreya mused as
her shuttle touched down on the Avalon's flight deck.
Granted, it wasn't the same Avalon she had left ... but then, neither
was she quite the same Moreya. Though still qualified as a medical
officer if need be, her primary function for this assignment would be
as Science Officer. A chance to put some of her earliest, and most
recent, training to use.
She shouldered her carrybag and headed into the ship, opening all her
senses to its presence. It was still so new that the air coming
through the circulation system was carrying traces of the chemicals
used in the construction. The Earth wit might have said, "new car
smell." But the various scents and pheremones of the crew, of which
Moreya was nearly the last to board, were slowly beginning to layer
themselves in as well.
Once in her quarters, Moreya lay flat on the floor, taking a few
minutes to meditate before reporting for duty. She was a little
surprised at the reassignment, but not disappointed. It would be very
pleasant to see Skyler again -- though Moreya couldn't help but wonder
how much her friend might have changed since they had passed three
days together in a holosuite. Moreya would have liked to think that
the time, and the experience, had wrought a lasting change -- but she
also knew that Skyler's personality was very solidly set, for better
or for worse. And only Skyler could pass judgement on whether she
wanted to keep it so.
Moreya would just have to wait and see. And that was all part of the fun.
