"New Doc Checks In"
Dr. Isaac Mahler
Dr. Georgia Lewis
Having put everything away in her quarter's Georgia felt the need to go and
introduce herself to the medical staff. The last time she had been in sickbay
it had been as Chief Nurse. Now she was a full fledged MD. She wondered how
the staff was going to take this change.
It took her awhile to reach sickbay as this new Avalon was bigger than the
old one. She hated to admit to herself that she had to ask the computer for
directions. After what seemed a lifetime she finally reached the medical
department only to be amazed at how much had changed. It was much bigger and
spread
out than previously.
Upon entering she noticed several people working quietly and steadily. Some
faces she recognized while others she did not. That was to be expected since
there had been a turnover in crew. Further exploration led her to the door of
the Chief Medical Officer. One Isaac Mahler. She had not heard of him before
but then he most assuredly hadn't heard of her either. Taking one more look
around she turned to the closed door and rang the door chime.
Mahler looked up from his PADD. "Enter." He gestured to a chair opposite him
at the desk. "Please be seated. Is there anything I can get for you?"
Walking over to the offered seat Georgia gracefully sat down, trying not to
let her nerves show. "Dr. Mahler, I am Georgia Lewis, Dr. Georgia Lewis. I
used to be head nurse aboard the Avalon. I am here reporting in as required by
Starfleet general orders." Listening to herself Georgia realized how stuffy
she sounded. "I just though I would let you know I was aboard and see if there
was anything you needed from me before we depart the station."
Mahler smiled. "It's very good to meet you, Dr. Lewis. I've heard a great
deal about you. Right now we're going through final inventory -- the old
routine as usual -- and I don't think there's any special request I might have
to
make of you. Welcome back aboard the Avalon and please feel free to make
yourself comfortable before the all-hands goes out prior to departure." Mahler
was
also thinking he needed to brush up on his communication skills; he sounded
like a pre-recorded message from a computer. "And if there's anything *you*
need from *me,* please let me know. That's really what a CMO's here for, he
thought.
Nodding her head Georgia turned and left sickbay to return to her quarters.
She was definitely going to have to get used to this new CMO. He was nothing
like any other CMO she had worked under, let alone beside. She sighed as she
walked along the hallway, Life is one continuous change, who we are is how we
deal with the changes.
I think I'm going to like working with this new doctor. She seems pleasant
enough and from what I've read comes highly recommended. He rose and stretched
and headed for the replicator to fetch some tea. End of the shift coming
anytime soon. I could use some off time. He finished his tea and headed down
the
corridor, after leaving one of the AMO's in charge of Sickbay, to the
turbolift. "Lounge."
