Mysteries......Part 3

Ensigns Georgia Lewis & Melanie Redgrave
special appearance by Cmdr Skyler

Georgia was in sickbay doing her usual business, checking inventory and
trying her best to avoid that crazy Dr. Cazook. She was still trying to decide
if
she should say anything to Skyler about Melanie. She had her suspicion's and it
was driving her crazy. She had made a promise years ago to Skyler's parents
not to tell her that she had a sister. After doing Ensign Redgrave's physical,
Georgia knew that this was indeed Skyler's sister. Now she was torn as to what
she should do. She had, after all made a promise, and she was not one to
break her promises. This was why she was so very protective of Skyler. She just
didn't know what she should do now. As she was thinking about all this a voice,
a very frantic voice came over her comm badge yelling something about CR1 and
Skyler. The voice sounded very much like Ensign Redgrave, and if she was in
such distress, that could only mean one thing........Skyler had found out.

Melanie looked down at Skyler, trying to eyeball how she was and what was
wrong. She hadn't brought a tricorder, why hadn't she brought her kit with her?
She slammed her comm badge again, "Georgia please hurry! Skyler's out cold."
All the times she had played this scene in her head it never ended this way.
Sometimes Skyler wouldn't believe her and would send her away, sometimes she
accept it but still turned her away, a few times she accepted the news and
Melanie
herself, but never had she sent the woman into an emotional jack knife that
would land her passed out cold on a dull blue gray carpet. "I'm such a bloody
fool. I never wanted to hurt you." Melanie never took her eyes from Skyler as
she slapped her comm badge for a third time. "Georgia!"

Georgia immediately grabbed an emergency medical kit, tricorder and some
drugs that she hoped would revive Skyler. If she knew Skyler, she was in some
sort
of emotional shock which wouldn't be good. "Ensign Redgrave, I am on my way
as we speak. I shall be there shortly. Raise her legs and replicate a cool
cloth and place it over her eyes for now. I will be there within minutes."
Georgia
only hoped that she could bring her out of this shock before any serious
damage was done. Skyler had already been through enough with two brain wipes
and
now dealing with the murder of Captain Flubb. Finding out she had a sister was
the last thing she needed. It wasn't going to help her knowing that everyone
she had trusted, Georgia included, had lied or mislead her in some way. Georgia
was going to have a great deal of explaining to do.

"Right, feet up wet cloth." Melanie repeated as she unzipped her uniform
jacket. She slipped it off and folded it to use under Skyler's legs and then
went
for the cloth. "I was so stupid." She muttered to herself as she did what
she'd been told. She had done the research, she'd known that Skyler's mother
was a
Betazoid, she should have been better prepared for their first meeting. "I
never wanted it to happen this way, Skyler. I had it all worked out, I'd come
and run a DNA test on us and then get to know you and let you get to know me
before I told you who I was, but you jumped ahead when you read my thoughts."
Melanie knelt back at Skyler's side and placed the wet, cool, cloth over the
older woman's eyes. "I fucked up."

Skyler was laying on the floor with her legs propped up and a cloth over her
eyes when Georgia came running in the room. "Oh  damn, Oh Lordy girl. What
happened here? What was it dat you told Missy Skyler?" Georgia took out her
tricorder and started to run it over Skyler's body. Her vitals were off the
scale
for her. Her brainwaves were hyperactive almost beyond belief. "Oh lordy lordy"
Georgia was beside herself, but had to keep herself together to help her
friend, the woman she thought of as a daughter. She prepared a hypo to slow her
metabolism and another one to sedate her. Hopefully the two in combination
would
help to relax Skyler's body and mind. She ran another scan and it
appeared to be working. Luckily she had gotten there in time. Georgia sat
next to Skyler and very gently rubbed her damp hair away from her eyes and used
the damp cloth to wipe Skyler's face and talked to her calmly. That was all she
could do at the moment until the medication she had administered took affect.
She looked up at Melanie. "Are you okay Missy?"

As soon as Georgia had moved over to Skyler's side, Melanie had moved out of
the way and was now across the room crouched down with her arms around her
knees, leaning against the wall. She watched as Georgia took care of Skyler and
then waited for the woman who she knew to be close to Skyler to turn around and
start yelling at her. It surprised Melanie a great deal when Georgia's voice
was soft and concerned and not enraged over what she'd done to Skyler. Melanie
just nodded to answer Georgia's question and the looked down at Skyler. "I
didn't mean to hurt her."

"I am sure dat you didn't mean to. If'n anyone has hurt this child it is me.
I should never have kept such a secret as this from her for all these years.
It ain't your fault missy. If'n any one is to blame it is me and her parent's.
You ain't done nothing wrong." Georgia got up and walked over to where Melanie
was sitting and pulled her up, wrapped her arms around her and gave her a big
hug. "We will get through this together. She's gonna be pretty pissed at both
of us for some time, but that Skyler is one tough child. She will come
around, you just wait and see. Welcome to the family."

Melanie wasn't sure what to say or do so she just stood there and hugged
Georgia until she stepped back and smiled at her. Melanie stood there and
blinked
as her mind tried to wrap around everything that was happening and then
suddenly the blank expression on her face changed to one of curiosity; a look
that
seemed to be almost a mirrored image of one of Skyler's. "Wait, did you just
say.. Did you? You know who I am?" All this time Melanie had thought no one
knew
she even existed. She'd just figured that when she was IDed as a baby Jane
Doe on that outpost that no one had known that Skyler's parents had had another
child. But someone did know, someone knew she was out there and just
left her out there. "I don't.. I don't understand."

"Now I know it seems strange that I know about you, but yes I knew Skyler had
a sister. Her parent's told me before they died. Unfortunately, with all the
confusion you were lost and separated from them and from me. Believe me, I
looked, but at that time no one was giving out much information to a black
woman
with little education. That is why I went back and got my education, went to
the academy and such, hoping that I would be able to find you, but at the same
time I had to keep my promise to Skyler's parents, your parents,  and not tell
her about you. When I did your physical there were too many coincidences and
you have your mother's eyes. When I ran your blood that's when I knew for
sure. I have been torn for the last few days as to what I should do. I do
apologize, but my first obligation is to Skyler. I hope you will understand."
As
Georgia was talking, Skyler started to moan in the background. Georgia went to
go
check on her. Running another scan, she found that her vitals were stabilizing.
She gave Skyler another hypo to bring her around.

As Skyler started to wake up, she looked into Georgia's eyes and then at
Melanie.
Looking back at Georgia she simply said, "How could you.......?"

She'd been separated from them, from her parents, her sister, her life.
Someone had done a half assed job at trying to find her family and Melanie
wanted
to know who? And why would their parents make Georgia promise not to tell
anyone about her? Melanie had come here looking for her sister hoping that once
she'd found her all her questions would be answered not have more questions
thrown in. The room was spinning or was it her head? Either way Melanie leaned
against the wall once more as she watched Skyler waking up. "Why'd they make
you
promise to keep me a secret?"

Georgia looked at both Melanie and Skyler who both had questions. Question's
that she couldn't answer at that particular point in time. She didn't know if
she would ever be able to answer them and it was killing her inside. She loved
Skyler like she was her own daughter and now there was Melanie to take care
of. Unfortunately now was not the time or place to go into all the details.
"I'm not really sure myself. To be honest I think that this discussion would be
best taken up at another time. When we can all talk calmly and not worry about
being interrupted by anyone. Perhaps once we reach Earth. We can go back to
Mississippi and find the answers. Right now you both have a major investigation
to take care of and a report  to prepare for Captain Ketchum. I am not putting
either of you off, I am just trying to make it easier for everyone. Please
try and understand." Georgia looked at Skyler and was deeply sorry for
betraying
her trust. "MS Skyler, you have to know I have done everything possible to
protect you, because your parents asked me to and because I love you," turning
to look at Melanie, "MS Melanie, I hope you will give me a chance to explain
things and don't blame Skyler or your parent's for anything."

Georgia gathered up her medical equipment and turned to leave. She could feel
both Skyler and Melanie's eyes boring holes in her back. She just kept
walking with tears silently falling down her face.
