Music of the Night
by. Lieutenant JG Caine Reilly McKinsely
The lights were off in the room but candles were everywhere, on all possible
surfaces. The soft light from the candles mixed with the light from the stars
outside caused the room to be bathed in an ethereal glow. The woman stood in
the middle of it all, her blonde hair cascading down her back and her womanly
body encased in the folds of a long white dress. She looked like an angel
standing there, her body reflecting the glow of the candles and her deep blues
eyes closed in thoughts of passions and hurts.
Slowly, she lifted the violin to her shoulder and began a mournful tune that
called out to lost souls. The bow skimmed across the strings, pulling from the
instrument a sound so powerful, anyone who hard it would not be able to turn
away.
The woman poured her soul into her music. All the pain and anger at the life
she was denied and the life she was forced to live, sorrow for a past she could
not change and an uncertain future she could not control. The notes were deep
and woeful, pulling on the heart of anyone who had ever been hurt in their life.
Faintly though, the notes began to change, they became light and airy. A small
smile passed over the woman?s face, her eyes closed in blissful surrender. Her
soul began to pour out the joy of true love found and a passion for living.
No music compared to that of which was being created by the hands of this
beautiful woman who had known a life pain and hurt but had finally found peace,
joy and love. Though she did not know what tomorrow could bring, she was
content in the knowledge that her life had changed and she was truly loved.
The music ended with a long drawn out note, as though the player didn?t want it
to end but knew that it must. Her eyes slowly opened to reveal deep blue eyes,
glistening in tears. It was over, she felt in heart that it was finally over,
the past no longer mattered, it was were it should be, behind her.
