"Mourning"
Cmdr. Skyler
The room was dark and cold. The PADD she held in her hand felt even colder
the longer she held it. She had read and reread the report more times then she
could count. The words never changed. Nothing ever changed. Her friend was
gone. Gone for good.
Sitting on her couch Skyler didn't know what to do with herself. She didn't
want to bother Georgia or her sister. So where would she go? She thought about
going to the holodeck but knew that would only lead her to trouble, trouble
she didn't need. Moreya had shown her that feeling the good and the bad was
part of life, part of being alive. Right then however she didn't want to be
alive.
They had just spoken not more than a few days ago. Making fun of her
God-awful drink. Now she was gone. She really hadn't developed a lot of close
friendships but Elissabeth was different. Maybe it had to do with their very
first
meeting all those mission's ago, or maybe it had to do with how honest
Elissabeth was. She always knew where she stood when it came to Elissabeth. It
would be fair to say that she was the first true friend she really had and now
she was gone.
How do you mourn for someone who is suddenly taken away from you? She hadn't
done it when her parent's had died or even when she was told her sister had
died. She didn't' know how to mourn. She knew the feeling's of emptiness and
loneliness. Yet that wasn't mourning. She didn't know how to mourn. She knew
that she was empty inside. Part of her had died. It was the same feelings she
had when her parents had died. The same emptiness. The same darkness.
She laid her head in her hands and whispered, "Lissi, how could you do this?
How could you go and die on me? I'm going to miss you so much, I wish you
were here for me to tell you. At least before you died I told you how I felt as
did you." Tears started to fall down Skyler's face. It was almost as if a
floodgate had been opened. Through the tears she thought to herself, Lissi,
I'm
so sorry for everything. I am going to miss you terribly but I know you are
in a better place. Always know you will have a place in my heart. Good bye my
friend.
Skyler sat there in the dark doing the only thing she could do at that
particular time. She just let the tears flow until there were no more. Perhaps
that was mourning?
