More Subterfuge and Other Plans

Keith entered the office, wearing the Lieutenant pips, which was probably a 
shock to Skyler.  And now he would have to explain the subterfuge. He turned 
and smiled as the door closed.


Skyler was pacing back and forth wondering what in the hell was going on as 
Keith entered in a Lt's uniform.


"So what do you think", pointing to the pips, "do I look good as a 
Lieutenant?"
 
"Uh Captain, I know I have been out of contact for awhile but did I miss 
something?"
 
"Nothing special, Commander, just a little rank adjustment.  I felt that for 
the good of the crew.  I figured that if we were fully captured, they might 
take the two ranking officers to their ship.  And that would be bad for the 
Avalon.  So, Anthony and I 'switched' places."
 
Looking at Keith, Skyler just chuckled, "Actually, they don't look half bad, 
at least I out rank you for awhile!"

He chuckled, "and don't get any ideas about ordering me around." 
 
"Well, if you want to keep the farce up I have to order you around at least 
for awhile. Otherwise it won't work, besides it could be fun."  Skyler just 
shook her head at the LT and grinned. "So how is this big plan of yours 
working? 
I can tell you right off the bat that Lt Cate is not going to be an easy one 
to win over."
 
Keith just glared at her, "I report right to the Captain."  He thought for a 
moment, "I'm not sure how the plan is working, but I was wondering if she 
actually knew that he and I switched.  And I'm sure he will try his best to win 
her over."
 
"Lt Cate is very set in her ways and will not under any circumstances betray 
her crew or her captain. She would rather die. That is the only life she 
knows. She even went so far as to tell me her life story and it was a horrible 
one. 
Yet she would rather go back than betray her crew and risk their lives."  
Skyler thought for a moment.  "There is one possibility."
 
Now truly interested, "and what is that?"
 
"She really does want to help, but doesn't want to risk the lives of her 
crew, so if we could somehow make it appear as though they succeeded in their 
mission to disable the Avalon and she was "killed" in the process, then there 
would be no reason for her to go back to the Tempest and her old life. She 
could 
remain here, and help us figure out how to get back in one piece."
 
"We're gonna need Doctor Roan's help for that... basically kill her off then."
 
"Or at least make it appear like she is dead."


"True."
 
"We could send some DNA samples on some debris in a canister or something so 
the Tempest would detect it."
 
"I'll see about getting Doctor Roan in her to work on that with you."
 
"We would have to put a cloak around her so that sensor's would not detect 
her."
 
"I'll talk to Anthony about what other protection we can provide.  Perhaps 
he'll talk her into it." 
 
"You might want to think about keeping those pips they really do make you 
look younger," Skyler just chuckled.
 
Keith still glared, "And perhaps you'd like to be an Ensign."  Now he smiled.
