<USS Avalon> "Meeting the R'ish'tka" CmdrSkyler

"Meeting the R'ish'tka"
CmdrSkyler

Staring out the view screen Skyler could see the stars of the warp field
flying by. To her it was a wondrous sight, however now they were on a mission
to
answer a distress call.

"Commander, the distress signal is coming from a ship that is now only 5 lt
yrs away." Lyta turned and waited for further orders.

"Drop out of warp and begin impulse. Start scanning for the ship."

She looked over at James who was still trying to figure out the language
from the distress signal. "Any luck yet Ensign?" She hoped he had been
successful.

James looked up briefly from his console and spoke to Skyler, "Yes, Ma'am.
It's not much, but I think I have a rudimentary understanding of what the
signal is saying."

"Put the ship on screen and the call on audio." Skyler looked at the view
screen as the Avalon grew ever closer to a strange looking object. It looked
large and cumbersome. She wondered how it had even made it into space, let
alone
this far out. Listening to the audio for the first time all she heard were a
strange groupings of clicks and ticks that made absolutely no sense
whatsoever to her.

"This is Commander Skyler of the Federation Starship USS Avalon. May we be
of assistance?" She looked at James to see if the message had gotten through.
He nodded his head that it had. "Keep repeating the message on all
frequencies."

It wasn't long before the computer was able to translate the distress call.
"I am Mir'ast'hera, from the planet R'ish'tka. My ship is disabled, can you
assist?"

"James run a passive scan on that ship so we can see what we are dealing
with. Lyta bring us within tractor beam distance. Once you have the results
James, let me know."

Skyler decided that she was looking at one very strange ship and was curious
as to who this Mir'ast'hera was. Her thought's were interrupted by James'
voice.

"Uh, Ma'am, according to our scans, the inhabitant of that ship appears to
be some kind of arachnid, a rather large one to be exact. The ships gravity is
lighter than ours by 1/3, the atmosphere inside the ship is slightly higher
in C02 then what is normal for humans but it shouldn't pose a problem."

"Mir'ast'hera, this is Commander Skyler again. We are going to do everything
in our power to help you. Please be patient and I will contact you again."
She signaled for the comm to be cut and then she called the captain.

"Captain Ketchum, please report to the bridge immediately. We have
encountered the ship sending out the distress call.
