"Lost Senses"
Sr. Lt. Melanie Redgrave & Jr. Lt. Georgia Lewis

It was just after her usual shift in sickbay and Georgia had just entered
her quarters. The first thing she did was to change into something other than
stuffy medical blues. Next came some relaxing tea, some dry toast, and relaxing
in her favorite chair. She hadn't heard from either Melanie or Skyler but,
she just figured they were taking some much needed time to get to know each
other again. She was just glad that they had finally worked things out and
were
at least speaking to each other. She knew her time would come. She was
patient, she thought to herself, after all, one had to be to put up with
Skyler
after all these years.

The morning had started out quite wonderful for Melanie. She rather liked
waking up in Elijah's arms and she was hoping that it became a common
occurrence. The rest of her day however, wasn't as pleasant. She was unfocused
and
edgy. There was something wrong, something missing, and it took her a while to
figure out what it was. Skyler's presence in her mind was weak. At first
Melanie thought maybe it was because her connection to Elijah was stronger now,

but then she realized that Georgia's was just as it always was. After checking
Skyler's office, her quarters, and with the computer, Melanie was in a near
panic as she headed to Georgia's. After ringing Georgia's chime, Melanie stood
there and drummed her fingers on the wall.

Georgia was just about to nod off when she heard her chime go off. "Lordy,
can't no one git no rest 'round this place. Y'all might as well come on in
seens hows yous dun woke me up." She waited to see who was at her door waking
her
up. She was a tad bit shocked to see Ms. Melanie standing there, beating the
liven' daylights outa her door frame. "Girl, whats got yous so rattled? You
looks like you is 'bout ready to jump outa your skin?"

"Is Skyler in here with you?" Melanie asked as she walked in to the room. "I
can't find her anywhere but worse yet I can't sense her."

"What'cha mean you can't find her?" Getting up Georgia pulled Melanie into
the room and sat her down on the couch. "Now you jest sit on this here couch
whiles I fetch you some tea to calm your nerves, then you ken tells me 'bout
it. She's on this here ship sumwheres, she cain't jest disappear." Georgia got
the tea and handed it to Melanie and sat down next to her. "Now, what's this
'bout you can't sense her neither?" Georgia put her hand on Melanie's knee
tried to calm her down.

Melanie took a small sip if tea and a deep breath. "I know I'm not use to
this whole Betazoid thing, but I was use to feeling.. something.. from her and
from you and from Eli.. It's just there, kinda like something telling me you
all right. I can't feel Skyler the way I normally do. It's weaker, kinda like
when she was in the coma."

Georgia looked at Melanie sorta strangely, "Has ya checked her quarter's and
everythin? Maybe she's just got herself blocked or sumthin, 'tho I don't
reckon I's ever seen her do that. Did ya check the computer?" Georgia wasn't
quite sure what to make of what Melanie was saying. It had been awhile since
she
had talked to Skyler but, as she had thought to herself earlier, one just had
to have patience with that one. This didn't sound like that was what was
going on.
Skyler was laying in the holodeck, with internal injuries, bruises,
lacerations and a dislocated shoulder and possible hairline fracture of her
back. In
her mind she was dreaming she was sitting by a large body of water, with the
wind blowing in her face and the sun warming her body. She wanted to just get
up and dive into the water but, found that no matter what she did she
couldn't do anything. She no longer felt anything and she no longer hurt.
Perhaps,
just perhaps, she thought, this is what peace was.

"I checked with the computer, her comm badge is in her quarters but she
isn't." Melanie said softly as she reached over and placed the cup on the
coffee
table. "Something's wrong, Georgia. Where would Skyler go to hide?"

"Well, the last time she tried to hide, was when she was in that coma thing.
I's dun't remember her ever tryin' to hide. Why would she be hiding? Did
y'all has 'nother fight or sumthin?"

Melanie shook her head. "I haven't talked to her in a couple days. I've had
other things on my mind." Melanie looked down at her boots before looking back
up at Georgia. "Something's not right, Georgia, I just have this weird
feeling that we need to find her."

Georgia put her arm around Melanie, pulling her head to her shoulder. "Nows
dun't yous fret, Ms. Melanie. We's gonna find her. I's gonna change, why dun't
you try and think of anyone she might have spoke to lately." Georgia got up
and retreated into her bedroom, wondering what the hell Skyler was into now
and changed back into her uniform. Walking back into the living area she saw
Melanie sitting at the computer. "Wells, did you find out if she's been seen
talkin' to anyone lately?"

"The only ones I can think of are her yeoman and Elissabeth." Melanie said
as she worked at Georgia's computer. "I think we'd have better luck if we
tracked her activities for the past few hours."

"You's much better wit this high fangled contraption, so you's go right on
ahead." Georgia watched as Melanie did whatever it was that she did.

Melanie worked the computer as if she were working a case. Back tracking to
find any foot prints that her sister might have left behind. She wasn't sure
why she hadn't done this in the first place, but she guessed it was became
she'd hoped that Skyler would have been with Georgia. "She went back to her
quarters after a meeting with Elissabeth and then there's a log for a site to
site to deck six, in front of holodeck one."

Georgia just stared at Melanie when she heard the news about the site to
site transport to the holodeck. "Mercy, Mercy, not again. Skyler not again."

"Not again what?" Melanie asked as she shot up out of the chair. "Georgia
what the bloody hell is going on?"

"Three, the third being a few hours ago." Melanie said as she headed for the
door. "Now are you going to tell me what's going on or not?"

"Yes'm, I's gonna tell ya, but you may not like it. Ya sees, whenever Ms.
Skyler thins she has hurt or betrayed someone that shes cared about, she shuts
off her feelin's, and makes it so that all she feels is real pain. You know,
not the kind that hurts the heart. So she goes an gits herself hurt so she can
still feel but she ain't hurtin nobody but herself. I's only seen her do it
twice. I just thought she was over it. It's been years since shes dun anythin
like this."

Melanie rolled her eyes as she walked down the hall with Georgia. "Great my
sister is a bloody masochist." She grumbled as she called for the turbo lift.
As she and Georgia rode the lift to deck six, she couldn't help but wonder
what had happened to throw Skyler into one of these spells. By the time the
lift stopped and the doors opened, Melanie had to keep herself from running to
the holodeck. "Computer override door locks. Authorization Redgrave Delta
Nine."

Georgia just followed along tryin to keep up with Melanie. She was also
prayin that Skyler hadn't done anything really bad this time. When the door to
the holodeck opened all they saw at first was the yellow grid normally found in

an unused holodeck. As they looked closer they found a body lying face down
on the floor. The body was dressed in a one piece black suit and next to it
lay a crumpled up uniform.

At the sight of her sister laying on the floor in a heap, Melanie ran right
over to her. "Skyler!" She called out as she knelt next to the older woman.
She carefully rolled her sister onto her back and then hit her comm badge.
"Medical emergency holodeck one."

Georgia took off her jacket and laid over Skyler's body and tried to take
her pulse and count respiration's. She tried not to think of what Skyler had
been doing or what type of injuries were involved. As they waited for a medical

team to arrive Georgia spoke, "Computer, make one medical tricorder."
Suddenly the tricorder appeared, Georgia picked it up and ran it over Skyler.
"Hmm,"
she kept muttering under her breath. She looked at the readings and ran
another scan and frowned at the results of that scan. Just as she was reading
the
second results the med team arrived and began to stabilize Skyler.

Melanie watched as the medical team worked on her sister. She'd never seen
Skyler looking so broken, not even during the whole rediscovering her baby
sister thing. She could feel a headache building behind her eyes as the med
techs carefully lifted Skyler on to the anti-grave stretcher. As they continued

to stabilize Skyler, Melanie walked over and started to take a look at the
program she'd been using. Shaking her head she muttered, "Bloody hell." when
she
saw that the safeties were off. As the med team took Skyler off to sick bay,
Melanie worked quickly tapping commands into the computer.

Georgia grabbed onto Melanie and ran along side her to sickbay. Skyler, she
thought, when are you gonna learn.
