<USS Avalon> Log - Family Ties - Lt. Roan

Family Ties
a log by
Lieutenant Felicity Roan

She was sitting at her new desk, pouring over crew files and waiting
for word from Nurse Lewis and Dr. Rashon that they were ready for the
inoculations. A file had crossed her desk that the Admiral had sent a
replacement
Counselor, Dr. Caine Reilly McKinsely.  It was good to see that the position
wouldn't be terminally empty.

When the chime on her terminal rang, she didn't want to answer.  She
wasn't ready to face all of the crew yet.  She liked being in the safety of the
Medical bay.  Somehow, even among the deadliest of germs, there was a sense
of shelter and serenity in these walls.  With a frown, she put aside her
feelings and caving in to duty answered.

"FELICITY MIRANDA!  How are you doing," came cheery voice on the other
end of the screen.  "Big shot Chief Medical Officer on her own starship.  Who
would have believed it possible, the bashful researcher from St. Catherines
off into the depths of space!"

Felicity rolled her eyes and smiled back, "Dylan.  My how bad news
travels fast.  How did you find out about my reassignment?"

"I called the other ship silly twin...what did you think you'd avoid
me forever?"  He let out a boisterous laugh and gave a wink.  "Don't you miss
your other half or something?"

With a smirk she retorted, "No, not really.  Out here I'm not anyone's
other half, just Felicity.  Actually I think they all believe I'm a bore or
an overbearing witch.  I can't decide yet, it's only been a few weeks."

"You...a bore?  Who'd have guessed!  What did you show them your germ
collection or something exciting like that?"  He was enjoying taunting his
sister about her research.

"Whatever...why are you calling me anyhow.  Aren't you supposed to be
driving some ship into a black hole or another exciting locale?  I'm up to my
eyebrows in work and we're in a 'unique' area of space.  I can't say more of
course, but you know the deal."

"Ahhh...that's interesting.  Freddie, there is another reason for my
call.  Word on the street is that your new home isn't all it's made to be.  You
know I won't say more."  She got the idea and nodded slowly.  "Well thanks
for the heads up.  I'll be careful.  Mum and Dad don't know where I'm at
either.  You have to keep it quiet."

"Freddie...you know I will.  I'm worried about you sis...keep your
eyes open.  If it gets rough over there...I'm only a call away.  I love you.
Talk to you soon!"

Dylan faded out and she looked back at her workload.  His admonishment
about the ship and/or her crew had her thinking.  He had been so serious
about it.  She got the impression he meant the crew more than the ship...but
again, she only got impressions of what he was thinking, never certainties.  In
any
case, it made her even more nervous about dealing with the crew.  With a loud
sigh, she hoped that the inoculations would take longer than expected.  Her
shyness just got worse.

Just then she heard the familiar sound of the internal comm's, "Dr.
Roan we have a patient here that I might need some assistance," from Dr.
Rashon.
She sucked it in and rushed out to assist the Doctor with the patient at
hand.
