<USS Avalon> "Leaving DS9" Commander Skyler

"Leaving DS9"
Commander Skyler

Skyler sat in her office going over the night spent with Georgia and
Melanie. It had been the first time she had actually felt like she had her
family back. Now if the rest of her life would straighten out then she
would be happy.

She looked at the time and stood, pulling on her uniform to make sure all
was in place and walked from her office across the bridge to her chair.
Lyta was at helm and James was at Tactical. The ship was still docked at
DS9 but that was about to soon change.

Pressing the comm button on her chair she took a calming breath and spoke,
"Attention all Avalon Crew. This Cmdr Skyler, we will be leaving DS9 in
approximately 15 minutes. Please make sure you are aboard and at your
posts."

"Lyta, check with the station master and make sure all Avalon crew are off
the station, then check to make sure they are on the ship."

Sitting back, Skyler looked around her and wondered what the next mission
would bring. Where was Starfleet sending them now? She and the rest of the
crew would find out soon enough.

"Commander, the station reports that all crew are no longer on the station,
scans show the crew to be present on Avalon."

"Good, now prepare for disembarking. Once you have clearance from the
station begin to disembark."

Skyler was deep in thought when a voice broke her concentration.
"Commander, we have received clearance from the station."

"Good, commence disembarking. Once we have cleared the station start at
impulse then proceed to warp 4."

"USS Avalon, this is the station master. You are cleared to disembark at
your leisure. Safe trip and may the wind be behind your sails."

"Thank You DS9."

Skyler called Keith. "Captain we are about to begin disembarking
procedures. Just wanted to let you know."

Keith looked up from his desk, "Thank you, Commander, I'll be up shortly."

Getting up Skyler walked over and stood behind Lyta. "Disengage the docking
clamps and take us out slow and steady."

"Docking clamps disengaged, moving away from the station. Will proceed to
warp 4 on your command."

Skyler liked standing behind the helm and watching as the ship went into
warp. It always amazed her of the advancements they had made in technology.

Lyta turned and looked at Skyler, "Cmdr. we have cleared the station."

"Commence warp 4, heading 368.97 mark 5."

"Yes Ma'am. Commencing warp 4, heading 368.97 mark 5."

Skyler watched as the ship started to move through space and suddenly moved
through the tunnel of light created by going to warp. They were on their
next mission, whatever that was. Returning to her chair she sat and waited.
For what she didn't know. There was always tension and suspense in the air
as a new mission was undertaken.

Only time would tell.

Out in the distance a lone ship with a lone pilot was lost. It was her first
trip into space and she was stranded. She had hoped to bring a great pride
to her people. She would be the first from R'ish'tka to achieve warp flight. It
was to be a momentous occasion, instead she was stranded far from her
homeworld.

She had sent out the automated distress signal, so now it was a matter of
time. Time that she really didn't have a great deal of. Her people had never
been in space, other than sub-atmospheric flights. This was the first warp
flight. A flight that had not lasted very long, but because it hadn't happened
as
planned, she was marooned. Her only hope was a passing ship or that somewhere
in the vastness of space someone would pick up her signal.
