<USS Avalon> "JAG"

JAG
By Lieutenant Commander Anthony Manson
and Lieutenant First Class Jayden Cross

"What do you mean my quarters aren?t ready? Would you care to explain that to
me, Ensign..."

"Robbins, ma?am."

"So, would you care to explain this to me, Ensign Robbins?"

"It?s been hectic, ma?am, with all the repairs and such."

"Are you telling me every single operations officer in the department has been
busy?"

"Well, I ... uh, I don?t know. You?ll have to talk to Commander Manson."

"Then arrange it. This is ridiculous, all of this should?ve been taken care
of." She crossed her arms and stared him down as if he were going to perform
some sort of miracle.

Ensign Robbins tapped his com-badge, "Commander Manson, sir. The new officer is
aboard and... not exactly happy. She wants to meet with you."

"Inform her to meet me on the bridge," Anthony replied cooly. "Alder, get
the..." the comm bleeped off before anymore could be heard.

Ensign Robbins looked relieved to be passing his headache onto a superior
officer. "He said -"

"I?m aware of what he said, Ensign Robbins. Have I given you any indication
that I have a hearing problem?"

"No, ma?am. I just -"

"Take me to the bridge."

It was scarcely two minutes before Jayden Cross stood on the bridge watching
the place buzz. Ensign Robbins beat a hasty retreat. Arms crossed once again,
she waited for her presence to be acknowledged.

Anthony looked up to see someone unfamiliar. She gave a no-nonsense look with
arms crossed, standing there. Anthony was in no mood as he manned his console,
"Did you need something, Lieutenant?"

Before she could say anything, Alder spoke up, "I?m picking up another power
surge on deck six."

"Seal it, then send the closest repair team when they get a chance," Anthony
responded, and then looked at the woman.

Stepping over to the Lt. Commander who spoke to her, Jayden extended her hand.
"Lieutenant First Class Jayden Cross, Starfleet Judge Advocate General."

Anthony perked an eyebrow, and shook her hand. Her grip was firm, "Commander
Anthony Manson. What is it you needed?"

"Why is it that my quarters and offices have neither one been prepared for my
arrival?"

"If you haven't noticed," Anthony gestured to the bridge crew's commotion, "we
haven't exactly had the time to accommodate anyone. You'll get your quarters
tonight. Until then, you're gonna have to wait."

"I?m sorry, Commander, but that is unacceptable. I am here on full authority of
Vice-Admiral T. Earl Grey to conduct the investigation into the Avalon?s
actions in the Ferengi skirmish. Anything impeding my investigation," she
looked at him squarely, "will be reported directly to the Vice Admiral. That
includes refusal of supplying a proper work environment, Lieutenant Commander."

"And you're going to have to understand, Lieutenant Cross," he shot the same
look right back at her, "that we are too busy. As it is, half our engineering
officers are under medical attention, and Station 51 is supplying us with what
they can give. If you cannot wait for a few hours, then you might as well stop
wasting both our time and file the complaint now."

He console bleeped again, "Phillipa, tell Lyta in cargo bay three that we need
a few more converters. Also coordinate with her on the teams."

"My orders are to be given utmost priority, sir."

Anthony gave a sigh, "I?m fully aware of your orders, Lieutenant. But that's
the best I can do. Your quarters are located on deck six. Deck six has suffered
extensive damage. Now unless you want to press the issue, I?m going to ask that
you wait."

"I expect to have an office by the end of the shift." With that, she turned on
her heel and walked back to the turbolift.

"Your office has already been made ready. It?s on deck four," Anthony replied.
"There's one problem, don?t expect power there for the next two hours."

Biting back the irritated retort, Jayden stepped onto the turbolift and kept
Manson?s gaze as the door closed. Captain Scott, she thought, I?m never going
to forgive you for sending me here.
