<USS Avalon> "It's About Time"

It's About Time
Lieutenants First Class Li Vilya and Elijah Dareth
Commander Manson as T'Pex

"Lt. Li?" The med-tech was trying to get Vilya's attention. "I'm showing that
the virus has been out of your system for the last hour and you're showing no
signs of a relapse or anything. I'm able to clear you for release." She
smiled broadly, glad to finally deliver some good news.

Vilya clenched her hands in a small gesture of victory. She was just that
close to taking Eli's suggestion and pinning a tail on the Romulan. There were
definitely enough things around here to fashion a weapon, she told herself.
She looked at Eli, ignoring the Romulan, then back at the tech. "What about
Mr. Dareth? I'm not leaving the poor guy here with that viral nightmare over
there."

"The Romulan is cleared to go as well."

At those words, T'Pex and Eli both looked up. "But what about me?" Eli asked,
hoping against hope that he wasn't going to be left down here by himself.

"They have a quarantined room for you in sickbay, Lt. Dareth. I'm sorry,
really, I am. I can assure you that -"

"Dr. Roan is working on it," Eli finished for the girl. "Yeah, I've heard that
one."

"I'm sorry, sir, we're doing the best we can."

"Do they teach you those answers in Bedside Manner 101?" Eli was sick of this
and it was beginning to show.

Vilya was already on her feet and she walked the few steps over to Eli.
Offering him her hand, she said, "Come on, I'll help you up." She leaned close
enough to whisper in his ear. "You know what I heard from the prylars on
Jerrado? They really have a stock list of answers." It was said with an
absolutely straight face but the mischief in her eyes was clear.

Eli offered her half a smile. "Thanks," he said, taking a deep breath.
Turning to the med tech, he said, "I'm sorry, Yeoman..."

"Gibson."

"Yeoman Gibson. I'm sorry. This hasn't been an easy few days, but that's not
an excuse."

"I understand, sir."

Something then just occurred to Eli. "Oh my god, I didn't just... transmit
that to her again, did I?"

Yeoman Gibson began scanning. "No, sir. Actually, it's quite fascinating.
You did place the virus back on her skin, but it's just dying away immediately,
like it already figured out that it can't live there. It's like... no, that
silly."

"What?"

"Almost like... it's sentient."

The thought of the virus being sentient made Vilya's skin crawl but her disgust
turned thoughtful. "You know, Gibson, when I was looking at this readouts
before this...thing...escaped...it did look like brain waves or something
smiliar..."

"Don't be ridiculous," T'Pex made a condescending laugh. "First, it's
mutations, which happened due to whatever biochemistry you humans have... Now
it's sentient. Next thing you'll tell me, is that it can sing me a song. You
humans are far too curious about things that are simple enough to figure out."

Knowing the pregnant one wasn't human, he just let the distinction go. They
were all the same one way or the other. "Why not... poke at it- as you humans
say- while you're busy trying to figure out brain waves." T'Pex shook his head
in pure amusement. The amusement behavior was shunted aside almost immediately,
"I was informed that the captain wanted to see me?"

The distaste on the Yeoman's face was obvious, but she was polite. "Yes, sir.
There's a security escort waiting to take you to see the Captain. Standby,"
she told the others.

Elijah was transported to sickbay and the forcefield that quarantined Deck 13
was dropped.
