<USS Avalon> "Intruders"

"Intruders"
Sr. Lt. Melanie Redgrave

The red alert klaxons caused Melanie's head to jerk up from her paper work. Not
good. Turning quickly towards her computer she checked the ship's status, and
groaned when she noted the intruder alert. As she stood up she felt suddenly
dizzy. Closing her eyes against the feeling, Melanie scolded herself for
standing up so quickly. Once the dizziness past she headed for the door of her
office, her mind torn with worried thoughts about Elijah, Skyler, Georgia, and
Vevay. Not only were both her sister and Georgia on the battle bridge, but both
her Fiancé and best friend just had to be security.

Taking a moment to push her fears aside, Melanie took a breath and counted to
twenty before stepping out of her office and into the main labs of her
department. "Ok everyone, side arms, and battle stations, we've been boarded."

Everyone in the room headed over to the hidden locker in the wall where the
phasers were kept. Pauly grabbed two, bringing one over to Melanie. She was
just about to take it when the doors opened.

"You won't be needing those." A Bajoran man wearing brown pants and a gray
tunic told them as he lead in a group of four well armed men.

Melanie's hand curled around the phaser as she stared at the man who'd entered
her domain. "Maquis."

The man smiled at her. "Give the lady a cookie." He laughed before looking at
everyone and settling his eyes on Melanie. He stepped towards her and she drew
her phaser on him. He intern drew his. "I wouldn't be stupid if I were you
little mother." He looked down at her belly. "Alright everyone listen up. Hand
your weapons over to Oliver here and I won't have to hurt this young lady."

Melanie stared at the man, her free hand going to her belly protectively, her
phaser still pointed at him. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a young man
with red hair trying to get the weapons from everyone, they out numbered the
intruders havening seven to their four, but no one was willing to start a fire
fight with Melanie at the business end of a nasty looking pistol. It wasn't
until the red haired man turned so that Melanie see his face that she gasped.
"Ollie."

The Bajoran man's eye brows went up, but used that moment to grabbed Melanie's
phaser right out of her hand. "Jamie get the portables hooked up."

"Right." The blonde woman replied.

"Who in charge down here?" The Bajoran man asked.

No one wanted to give Melanie away by looking at her, so they all looked at
their shoes, but Melanie wasn't going to hide. "I am." She replied.

The man looked at her pips and then into her eyes. "Tell them to stand down and
not try anything stupid. We don't want to hurt you we just need your computer
interfaces."

"You bloody fucking wanker." Melanie replied.

The Bajoran man laughed. "I've been called worse by own wife when she was
expecting out son, little mother, you'll have to do better then that. Now give
the order."

Melanie snarled her lip but gave the order to stand down and stay together.

"Good girl." The man replied before barking out his own orders to people.

Once the man was busy Melanie looked at the red haired young man. "Ollie?"

The redhead looked at her and smiled before looking shocked. "Mels?"

"What the bloody hell are you doing?" She asked. "The last time I saw you..."

"I was heading off to the Academy." Oliver finished. "My plans changed, Mels."
He looked at her and smiled again. "Your pregnant."

"Yes and your a bloody fucking Maquis." She spat. "Your grandmother..."

"Died, Mels." Oliver paused a moment before adding. "So now I'm picking up
where my grandfather left off."

Melanie couldn't believe it. She'd grown up with Oliver O'Neal. They were close
as kids, and as teens. He'd been her partner when their mothers made them take
dance classes, he broke her toe learning the samba, and now she couldn't stand
the sigh of him. "And Bethany?"

Oliver shrugged. "Like I said Mels. Plans change."

Something brushed the back of Melanie's mind and she tried not to smile. "Yes,
Ollie, plans do change." Without looking at anyone but Oliver, Melanie sent a
warning to her people to stay perfectly still, until she said other wise.

By the time the hum of the transporters filled the room it was to late. Eight
security officers had appeared, four of them firing as soon as their were
solid. One by one each of the Maquis fell.

Once the room was secure, Melanie finally looked at each of the officers who'd
beamed in, she'd expected to see Elijah but he wasn't among them. She felt
alone and dejected until she saw a familiar face.

"Melanie!" Vevay called out. "Mel, are you ok?"

Melanie nodded, biting back tears. "Yes, V, I'm fine."

"Your shaking, Mel, come on lets go sit down in your office."

Melanie didn't fight, she just let V lead her into her office. Everything from
there on out was to much of a blur for Melanie to make sense of.
