<USS Avalon> Interview D

Interview D
by Senior Lieutenant Anthony Manson & Ensign Melanie Redgrave
It had been a rough morning for Melanie. She woke up feeling more sore and
stiff then she had when she went to bed, but at least she didn’t feel as
tired
as she had. She was sure that today, like most of the others before it, was
going to be a bust and she would end up just where she had been when she
walked into the labs. No where. That was of course before she was handed a
padd
that could be the break she was waiting for. Two of the costumer lists she’d

requested had come in and to her surprise there was a familiar name on one.
Melanie grabbed two of her other padds and then quickly headed off to have a
chat with a Mister Anthony Manson.
The meeting with the Captain had been called in. He placed notifications to
the commanders, and now that he had the chance to get someone to take over
Ops, he made his way to the conference room. The turbolift seem to have gotten
an off  day and when he finally got in, he saw a woman he wasn't familiar with;
but saw her somewhere once or twice. He simply nodded at her, "Deck Two."
He expected her to actually vacate the turbolift, but when she didn't he
spoke up, "can I help you Ensign?"
"Senior Lieutenant Manson?" Melanie asked though she already knew the answer.
She had made it a point to familiarize herself with the files of the people
her bio scans had confirmed had been in the ready room. "I am Ensign Redgrave
the Forensic officer working the Flubb case. I have a couple of questions to
ask you."
Manson looked at her with as much of a neutral look he could convey in those
grey eyes, "go ahead, Ensign, but you'll have to make it quick. There's a
conference meeting I can't afford to miss."
"I’ll get right to the point with you, Lieutenant. In my sweep of the room I
found two sets of foot prints that didn’t seem to walk in or out of the room
through the door. I’ve IDed the types of shoes that match the imprints in the
carpet and I believe one set is yours." Melanie’s voice was level and firm.
"I also have your name on a sales record from a shop on Risa who sells the
type of boot wore in the prints."
"And what shoes are they? I own three pairs, but if you mean that you found
those pairs in the room, then it can't be me. I haven't been in that room
other than welcoming the captain- Flubb that is- to the ship. And I believe
two
meetings I've had with him." The doors of the lift had long since opened and
they turned into a corridor.
Melanie had to lengthen her stride to keep up with Manson as they headed down
the hallway. "A pair of soft soled civilian boots made by craftsmen from
Durvus IV. My recorders show you bought a pair of shoes from their shop on
Risa,
and unless you greeted Captain Flubb mere hours before his death you may
want to rethink the last time you were in the ready room."
"Risa?" He thought about it for a second and looked at her. He automatically
stopped in his tracks, "you mean those pair of shoes I got from Alder? I
haven't worn those at all since.. well, a funeral. And just so you have it on
record, he got the shoes under my name to surprise me. As for meeting with
Flubb, no I haven't." He hadn't bothered to stir around her considering she
was a
new person and he was usually nervous around new people. "Anything else?"
"I have a bio scan that puts you in the ready room mere hours before his
death, Lieutenant." Melanie looked the man next to her over and knew right away

he didn’t fit the physical parameters she’d set using the holographic dummy
but his defensiveness intrigued her.
"Are you sure of that?" Anthony looked at her with frowns forming on his
face, "because if your scans show me, I can't be the killer, Ensign. I didn't
meet with Flubb before his death in those shoes you mentioned."
Melanie’s face and tone of voice showed nothing as she looked back up at
Manson. "Perhaps you were not wearing those shoes but the fact remains you were

in the room, weren’t you?"
He sighed, "If you are referring to the meetings and the welcoming I gave to
Captain Flubb upon his arrival, then yes. Other than that, no I wasn't
around." They stopped short at the conference room.
"I’d like to see those shoes, Lieutenant. I’ll get a warrant from security
if I have too, but I’d like to see you bring them on your own." Melanie
didn’
t think Manson was who she was looking for anymore then it had been Sierra,
but she didn’t like lose ends. "Oh and one other thing, Sir. Are you left
handed?"
Anthony nodded, "I'll get you to look at those shoes, just let me know when
you want them in. And no, I'm not left handed."
Melanie finally broke a smile. "Thank you, Lieutenant, and by before the end
of Alpha shift would be best for the shoes." Melanie took a step back and
nodded her head in thanks. "Thank your for your time, Sir."
He simply nodded at her, "Ensign." He turned back, but quickly said with a
better tone in his voice, "you're new- couldn't remember who you are for a bit-
 welcome aboard."
