"Interview A"

Sleep was far more elusive then Melanie had expected it to be. She was
haunted by the events with Skyler and Georgia and from her on going thoughts
about
the case. By four a.m. Melanie had given up any hope of getting more then
two and half hours of sleep and instead decided to spend the rest of the
morning
doing yoga and meditation to clear her head. She was thankful, as she walked
down the halls of the ship, for the time she spent with T’Arah and for the
lessons she‘d learned from the Vulcan-Human hybrid. A small smile, the first
since her arrival, tugged at her lips at the mere thought of T’Arah. Melanie
wished she could talk to her old friend, they were still after everything that
had happened, friends and right now Melanie could think of no one she wanted
to talk to more.

But talking to T’Arah or Georgia or even Skyler at the moment wasn’t
possible. She had work to do, a case to solve, and that needed to be her
priority.
Melanie looked down at the padd in her hand. She was meeting first with
Doctor Mehdi Idrys, assistant medical officer, and her sister’s husband. She
wondered as she approached sick bay if Skyler had told Idrys about her and
what
was happening between them. If she had this interview was going to be
extremely
heavy handed.

Melanie walked into sick bay and to her surprise first scanned the room for
Georgia. When she couldn’t see a single sign of the nurse she asked for
Doctor
Idrys. She was directed to a room in the back were the supplies where kept.
Melanie walked back to the room and stood in the doorway as she watched a man
in his thirties, with brown hair, and the tell tale marks of Trill tapping
information into a padd.

“Excuse me. Doctor Idrys? I am Ensign Redgrave of forensics. I have a couple
of questions I’d like to ask you.”

The doctor turned and looked at Melanie with his warm and she was sure
practiced smile. “Of course Ensign.”

Melanie removed a padd from her jacket pocket and turned it on so it would
record the doctor’s answers. She scanned his face quickly for any signs that
he
knew who she was personally and when she was sure there weren’t any she went
on with what she was really there for. “How well did you know Captain
Flubb?”

“As well as any of the crew I suppose. He wasn’t one of those have a drink
with the troops type.” The Doctor answered.

Melanie had read that in the Captain’s file. It stated that he wasn’t
Xenophobic like some of his race can be, but because he was the first of his
kind
to hold a command position he seemed to be very by the book and professional,
or at least he was in his logs. Melanie looked up from her notes and went on
with her prepared questions. “Had you been in the ready room at all in the
previous 72 hours prier to being called there by Commander Skyler?”

The doctor shook his head. “No, that had been the first time in ages since
I’
d been in the ready room.”

Seeing as how that was hard to prove, but information Melanie wanted to ask
about none the less, Melanie deiced to move on to something that could be
proven. “Do you own a pair of soft soled civilian boots from Durvus IV?”

The flash in the Doctor’s eyes told Melanie all she needed to know. She’d
spent enough time around the London elite to know the ‘I wouldn’t wear that

ever’ look. “No I do not.” The Doctor answered.

Melanie watched the Doctor’s expressions carefully. She’d learned over the
years how to watch for the signs people give off when lying, making up a
story, or hiding something. She knew how to tell when someone was creating a
tale
or recalling a memory. So far the Doctor wasn’t setting off any warning
bells. “One last question Doctor. Are you left handed?”

“No I’m not.”

“Thank you Doctor.” Melanie said as she saved the recording and her notes.
She’d been watching to see which hand he favored and indeed it was his right.

She would go back and check to see if her request for sales records from the
four stores that sold the type of shoe she was sure the suspect wore had
arrived and cross check to see if the Doctor’s name was on them, but she was
fairly sure it wouldn’t be.

Melanie thanked the Doctor for his time and headed back out the way she’d
come. She didn’t give the Doctor any time to ask his own questions. She
didn’t
even give him time to reply to her good bye. She had to move on to her next
name on the list. Commander Javan Sierra.
