<USS Avalon> "In the Meaning of Dreams"

?In the Meaning of Dreams?
by Commander Javan Sierra

The room was shrouded in darkness. There were no shadows on the wall or eerie shapes rising up from oblivion; it was a calm stillness that almost made his queasy. Something was moving about in the dark. There was something slithering along the floor. There was something clawing at the walls. There was a whirling buzz as something flew in the air.

His eyes, no matter how hard he tried, could see nothing. He strained with every ounce of his being to see the details in the darkness, but he was only met with a curtain of mystery. There was no way for him to focus and there was no way for him to reach out with his mind to find anything. Javan Sierra stood alone in a room that was no longer his own. Walls stood erect all around him, but none had any furnishings that he knew.

Reality had been twisted and contorted into a skewed state of sleep. His eyes still frantically scoured the walls looking for signs of his life and not someone who was nothing to him. And yet, even in those times where he knew not what he was doing or where he was, he was aware that he was indeed sleeping and his life was still wholesome and good outside this land of fancy.

When he tried to take a step forward he couldn?t lift his foot off the ground. Javan strained to raise the other but was met with the same resistance. He was trapped in a black void that was lavish with only the color black and the increasingly nagging sounds of hostility beyond his vision.

Just then, in that moment where he felt the most alone, things began to change. The room ceased to be a room and the walls seem to drift away into nothingness. All was still quiet and unmoving, but there was a change. He feasted his eyes on the glorious woman rising before him. He recognized her and at that moment it hit him that it was Caine. She had a bewildered look on her face. ?Caine??

?Javan??

?I?ve been thinking about you.?

?Me too, that would explain your presence in my dream.? She smiled and looked around at the barren and desolate place that the darkness had once become. Her eyes started darting around just as frantically as his did.

Javan stopped, looked at her again, ?Your dream? You know you?re dreaming??

?Yes, why??

?Because you?re in my dream.?

Her eyebrow perked, ?What??

He bolted upright straight in his bed, in his quarters, and in the quiet chaos that had encased his mind. He tried to comprehend what had just happened. Trying to pass it off as just another dream, Javan lay back down in the bed and closed his eyes. Within moments they were open once more and he turned on his side. Only one word came to his mind.

Imzadi.
