<USS Avalon> "Heart of Corruption"

Heart of Corruption
Senior Lieutenant Commander Anthony Manson and
Lieutenant Commander Elissabeth Marksbury

Checking over his shoulder, Elvek slipped into the back and mostly unknown door
to Cretann's office, standing behind the curtain. It didn't stir, but Elvek
knew that his presence would be acknowledged when Cretann was ready.

"The job is a success?" Cretann asked quietly as he sat behind his lofty desk,
hands in front of him as he thought quietly at what was to become of this most
devastating failure. He would have to quickly rebuild his value in front of the
Tal Shiar, and he would have to quickly redouble his efforts in blinding the
Senate.

Stealthily stepping out from behind the curtain, Elvek moved to stand at
Cretann's right side. "I watched. Upon learning the news, they fought,
screaming and throwing things like children. I was amused."

Cretann nodded.

Elvek smirked, "I waited for the opportunity to strike, hoping for a challenge,
but it was too incredibly easy with them placing themselves in bed together."

Cretann suddenly burst into laughter, "After years of threatening each other
openly. After years of fighting and internal political moving to get at each
other, the two roll around in bed. And these are the people that held enough
power to get this project completed. Disgusting," Cretann hissed. He laid his
hands down, "When the news feeds stumble upon on their deaths, what will they
find?"

"Just what you ordered, Cretann. Evidence that they killed each other. Only
it's particularly perverted because they killed each other during an act of
copulation." His shoulders shook with laughter. "A nice little twist, even if I
do say so myself."

"Indeed," Cretann replied "You will be the new head of the next Tal Shiar
Operation. Your new rank is Commander. You have done superb for the last few
years, Elvek. Do not disappoint your superiors."

"I do not allow anything to cloud my judgement. I know where my loyalties lie,
Senator. We must cut out the heart of corruption. We must glorify the Empire,"
Elvek said, as he paced slowly behind Cretann's chair.

"What's left of the old ways," Cretann said as he looked ahead.

Sliding the knife across Cretann's throat, the assassin laughed as the Senator
slumped over on his desk. "The old ways, indeed. Deceit and treachery never go
unpunished. Let the others hear the message and learn the lesson." Cleaning the
blood from his knife on the back of the chair, Elvek sheathed it and slipped
out the door, satisfied with a job well done. Now, to find T'Pex.
