<USS Avalon> "Good-bye for Now"

"Good-Bye for Now"
Lt. First Class Georgia Lewis

Georgia looked at the empty PADD in front of her.She had so much she wanted to 
tell Melanie and Skyler yet she couldn't form the words she so desperately 
wanted to say.

Finally she decided she would just say what she had to.

"To my dear family, Skyler and Melanie;

I know of no other way to let you know how very much you both mean to me. This 
is not as easy as I thought it would be. By the time you read this I will most 
likely be on the Morganstern headed back to earth and to Starfleet Medical.

I have decided that it is time that I did what I have wanted to do for so long, 
but have put off due to my own insecurities. I am hoping to get my medical 
degree and return to the Avalon as a Doctor. It won't be easy but I'm sure with 
your support and hard work I will accomplish my goal.

It is with deep sorrow that I won't be able to say good-bye in person to either 
of you. Melanie you have a beautiful daughter and a wonderful partner. I am 
sure you will be quite happy. I am very proud of you. You have accomplished a 
great deal since you first came aboard the Avalon. Always know that you will be 
in my thoughts and prayers.

Skyler, what do I say to you? You have been like the daughter I never had. You 
have been exasperating at times and at others you have been a delight and a joy 
to have around. You remind me a lot of Henry. I  have every faith that you will 
continue to excel at what you are doing. Just remember that work is not 
everything.

You now have a sister and a neice. You also, will have I am sure a 
sister-in-law. Do me a favor and don't try and be the parent. You are the 
sister. A friend and confidant if needed. It may not always seem like you are 
needed, but in their own way Melanie and her baby will need you. After all you 
are family. As such you should stick together, get to know each other better. I 
know that is going to be hard  for you but I also know how much you really do 
love Melanie and want what is best for her. Just don't be overbearing. She will 
come to you when she needs you...and when you least expect it.

Melanie, you are the first in the family to have a baby. You are blessed with 
such a little one. Take good care of her, let her know about her heritage. 
Remember too, that just like Skyler, you are all one family. You will have you 
rough times but never give up on each other. You need each other in your own 
ways.

Now that I have bored you to tears, I find that my time is short. I must leave 
now. It is with a great sorrow that I won't be with you on this new journey of 
yours. I will be in your hearts as you will be in mine.

I will love you both always.

She reread the letter one last time with tears in her eyes. It was hard saying 
good-bye to family. Hard as it was it was something that had to be done.

Looking around she found an ensign and gave him the PADD's and told him to 
deliver one to Melanie and one to Skyler. She just hoped they would both 
understand.
