Josh turned at the sound behind him. He could hear the breathing. Smell the
sweat. Someone had followed him into the turnout. Dammit, he chided himself.
You know better. Stay on guard. Don't get distracted. Don't stay out in the
open.
But it was too late.
"You really should have stayed dead, boy," The voice behind the phaser said
gruffly. "Stupid girl led us right to you. But then, we knew she would,
eventually."
Josh sighed, nodding slightly. Oddly enough, he wasn't afraid. Just relieved.
It was finally over. The blinding white light surrounded him. After a moment,
the pain faded, and him with it.
He was going home.
