Girl Talk
by Patrick McEntire, Sussanna Jameson, Lori Chan, Sophia Brennan, Becky
Taylor and Tina Flynn
Mac kissed the still sleeping Anna gently upon the cheek before rising to
shower and dress. He was going to be late for work. Again. At least this
time it was for a pleasant reason.
The sound of movement in the other room brought Anna stirring to
consciousness. Her first thought was that she'd been dreaming again.
Memories filtered through but she didn't want to trust them completely.
Rising and pulling on a dressing gown, she padded through to find Mac just
about to leave.
"Don't I get a kiss goodbye?" Not a dream then. She smiled, relieved that
she wasn't going completely mad this time.
"I did kiss you, sweetheart, just didn't wake you. At least, I tried not
to," Mac answered, kissing her again. "Was I too loud?"
"Nope, I needed to get up anyway." Playfully grazing her teeth over his
lower lip, she said, "I never got to finish reading my journals last night,
did I? I need to get that done before my shift starts, although I've half a
mind to go in early and just sit in my office to read them."
"Babe, it's quarter to ten at night, though. You've slept all of.."he
checked his chronometer, "an hour...and you don't work graveyard shift,
remember." He kissed her and turned her back toward her room. "Go back to
bed."
Her eyes twitched at the name but she decided not to mention her aversion to
it. She liked him a whole lot, she could put up with being called babe.
"Sorry, honey, I've got to read these bloody journals." She swiveled in his
arms and leaned in to kiss him even deeper before nudging him toward the
door. "You're going to be late, silly boy."
"Shit!" he blurted, noting the time yet again. "Okay.." he kissed her
again.."See you later." And one more. "Bye..." and off he ran out the door,
comming Josh along the way to tell him he'd be late....again.
Smiling smugly to herself, Anna pulled on her uniform, figuring she'd not
bother coming back before work. Grabbing the journals, she headed out and
wandered into the silent Sick Bay. Hmm, gosh, that's a long walk, a whole
five seconds and I'm here. Maybe I could just make my quarters my office and
be done.
One nurse smiled sleepily at her from behind a desk. Anna waved and slipped
into her office. Blessed silence greeted her. With the journals plopped in
front of her, she lost herself in article after article, only stopping to
get more coffee every so often.
"So," said a pleasant female voice outside her door. "You're who he stood us
up for?" Grinning, Lori Chan entered the office, followed by her roommates,
Sophia Brennan, Becky Taylor and Tina Flynn.
"Hey," Sophia cooed, "Pretty."
"You're the new doc, aren't you?" Becky asked, looking around. "He doesn't
usually go for doctors."
Tina looked over her shoulder at the PADDS, then noticed the empty coffee
cup. "Don't suppose we could convince you to join us for breakfast? We could
swap stories about our favorite playboy."
Who he stood us up for... Mac? "I'm sorry, is there something I can help you
with? Did the duty nurse send you through for something specific?"
Tina laughed. "That's funny. She didn't send us in, silly. She's sleeping."
She gestured out to where the sleepy nurse had finally lost the battle and
laid her head down upon her desk.
"Is that your way of turning down our invitation for breakfast?" Sophia
asked, looking genuinely disappointed.
Anna's interest was perked. "Of course not. I guess I ought to eat before my
shift starts. You're friends of Mac's right?"
"That's right," the slender blonde answered. "We've been friends of his for
a long time. Pretty close friends. I'm Rebecca...Becky....that's Sophia over
there," the tall leggy redhead waved, smiling. "That's Tina," The brunette
with the pale skin smiled and nodded. "And that's Lori." The
delicate-looking asian girl smiled. "What's your name, Doc?"
"Anna Jameson." Glancing round at them all, for the first time Anna was glad
of her innate ability at remembering names. "He has a lot of female friends,
I see."
Sophia laughed, "Now there's an understatement." She nodded toward the door.
"Mess hall okay with you?"
Tina giggled. "No fair keeping him to yourself," she scolded playfully.
"Next time just come with. We don't mind."
"That's right," Becky told her as they escorted her to the dining area and
found a table for all of them. "It wouldn't be the first time he's brought
friends."
"Too bad chief won't come with," Lori sighed.
Sophia laughed again. "Give him time, Lori," she told her. Turning to Anna,
she added. "She's got a little bit of a thing for the chief. Always wants
what she can't have, but seriously, they're right. Next time just come
with."
At first, she had no idea what they were talking about but slowly, as
realisation dawned, Anna's eyes widened. "You mean you..." Flushing, she
gaped at them. "As in, all four of you at once?" Ignoring the fact that they
were talking about Mac, it was the mechanics of it that Anna was finding it
a little hard to work out.
"Well, yeah," Tina answered as though it were obvious. "And sometimes Connie
and Vicky...you know, Diaz and Cortez. But mostly not. They sort of like to
keep him to themselves."
"Stingy," Lori laughed.
"Yeah...he's got appetites. Big appetites..." Becky defended.
"First time I've ever heard it called that," Sophia laughed. "Lil' Mac...PJ
jr...never appetites..."
"OH WRONG," Tina laughed, reaching across Anna for the salt. "but
yeah...don't worry, though, there's enough of him to go around..."
Sophia almost choked on her juice. Coughing, she grinned. "Paybacks?" Tina
laughed again.
"It's just a matter of being willing to work together," Becky clarified at
last.
They weren't making a whole lot of sense to her. It was like they all spoke
a foreign language that she'd learned once at school but had never used
since. Bit like Klingon then. Sighing, Anna bit into a piece of toast and
munched to herself.
"You mean that you're expecting me to..." Furrowing her brow, Anna looked
directly at Becky. "To share him somehow? To spend the night with all five
of you?" Not that the prospect was entirely appalling to her, they were
rather attractive women, it was just that she'd thought he was hers, all
hers. Silly girl, why did you even try to think that? He's a handsome man,
after all.
"Well yeah!" Becky answered, as though it should have been obvious.
Laughing, she added. "Like one would be enough for him? I'm sure you're
good, but...nobody's that good."
"Nobody, of course." Nobody. See? Not worth the risk, not worth the effort.
Sipping her orange juice, Anna tried not to think. "Well, I'll let him know.
As soon as I see him next." Which would be this time next never! Downing
the remaining drink and grabbing her last piece of toast, Anna tried to
smile at them all. "Thanks for letting me know the score."
Sophia watched her walk away and shook her head. "I think we might have made
a mistake," she told the others, frowning.
"What do you mean?" asked Tina, dunking her toast in her hot chocolate.
"We let her know the score alright. But I think the game has changed."
Standing, Sophia gestured toward the others. "Come on, guys. We need to talk
to Mac."
