"Getting a Feel for Things"
Yeoman Amelia Renaldi
With everything put away in her own quarters Amelia decided that it was long
past time to get herself familiarized with the ship. She’d read over
everything she could get her hands on. She knew all about the modified Intrepid
calls starship as far as the specs and text was concerned, but she liked to
have
a more personal feel for things. After putting on a fresh uniform and braiding
her long blonde hair into a tight French braid, Amelia headed out to
explore. She grabbed the nearest turbo lift and took it all the way down to
deck
fifteen and then worked her way up. She checked out every inch of the ship she
had access too and took notes on the padd that was always present on her
person.
It took several hours to work her way up the fifteen decks to the bridge,
but it had given her time to learn the quickest routes to take to get to the
places that Commander Skyler could, and most likely would, be sending her.
According to the ship’s specs the Executive Officer’s officer was on deck
one
just off the bridge. Amelia found this odd since that was normally the
Captain’s
ready room, but what she found even more odd was the fact she had to go to
not only security but to forensics to get clearance to enter the officer.
It had taken nearly two hours to get clearance to enter, and apparently
reclaim, Commander Skyler’s office. Apparently the office had been claimed by
the
pervious captain, taken right out from Skyler’s nose, and then had turned
into a crime scene. Amelia had gotten quite a bit of information out of several
officers about the goings on around Avalon, it was remarkable what a shapely
blonde could find out when she had the skills to do so, things were pretty
much a wreak and Skyler was on edge.
After gaining permission to reclaim the office off the bridge for Skyler,
Amelia went to the Commander’s current office. She wasn’t there and neither
was
the yeoman she was replacing. Amelia slipped in behind the small desk that
would have been her work station and signed onto the terminal. She was pleased
to see that she’d already been granted access to the systems. She read over
Skyler’s file again and then at little notes that weren’t considered
confidence to get a feel for some of the things Skyler liked. She then took
the time
to go over Skyler’s office. She wouldn’t touch or move a thing until
she’d
meet and talk to her commanding officer, but she wanted a general idea of how
she was going to plan the move.
Once Amelia made it back to the ready room off the bridge she had a pretty
good idea how the Commander would like it set up. She’d make out a floor plan
as she cleaned up. She wasn’t sure of the condition the office would be in
when she entered it, but past experience told her it was going to be a job
within it’s self to get it cleaned up. As the doors opened Amelia was hit
with a
rush of stale air and she frowned. The cleaning system and air curricular had
been turned off. Amelia walked over to the control panel on the replicator
and quickly set all the perimeters back to standard issue settings.
There was dust all over the furniture and some kind of hard sheen covering
the floor. Amelia sighed as she put in the maintenance request to have the
carpet replaced and odd looking and ill fitting furniture removed. She then
added a order or a decon treatment on the room. Something told her that the
Commander would most likely not want to work in a room where a dead body had
been.
By the time Amelia was satisfied that she’d done all she could without
reporting directly into Skyler, it was well past 0200 hours. After returning to
her small quarters Amelia checked her agenda for the next day and then crossed
it with Skyler’s. She wanted to make sure to be in the Commander’s
temporary
office at least a hour before the Commander reported on duty.
As Amelia laid in her bunk, she actually found herself looking forward to
meeting Commander Skyler. From everything she’d read and done during the day
she
knew that the older woman would be someone she liked and hopefully enjoyed
working for.
