"From One Doc to Another"

Having finally  settled  into her new   quarters aboard the new and improved  
Avalon, Alexis decided that she should probably report in to the new CMO. On 
one  hand she was glad that she was not going to be responsible for the entire 
crew,  on the other hand she had been doing it for awhile and had gotten used 
to the  idea. Still, she had been replaced and it was time to get the 
inevitable over  with.
 
     Walking through the  new halls of the ship Alexis savored it all. It was 
only the second time she had  been on a new ship. She was used to the 
activity of a starbase, that is until  she had been assigned to the Avalon-B. 
Now she 
was on her second Avalon. Ship  life was entirely different than that of life 
aboard a starbase. 
 
     Upon reaching the  new sickbay, Alexis took a deep breath and walked in. 
She looked around,  specifically looking for Georgia. It took her a few 
seconds to realize that  Georgia was gone and would be for a while. She saw a 
nurse 
working nearby and  walked up to her.
 
     "Excuse me, but I  am looking for the new Chief Medical Officer. Could 
you point me in his  direction?"
 
     The nurse looked up  and nodded to the CMO office. Nodding her head in 
acknowledgement Alexis made  her way across sickbay to the Chief's office. She 
rang the chime and waited for  a response.
 
 
Well, there  goes that free time, thought Dr. Mahler as he looked up. 
"Enter." I  wonder who's there this time?
 
     Walking into the office she once  held, even for a short while was 
strange. "Dr. Mahler, I am Sr. Lt. Alexis  Cazook, also a Doctor. I thought it 
would be appropriate if I checked in with  you. I hope I am not disturbing you."
 
    "Not at all,"  replied Mahler, putting on his best face and lying through 
his teeth as best he  could. "Very thoughtful of you to do so. I'm glad to be 
able to meet my staff  here. I take it you've been on the Avalon some time?"
 
     "Actually, the  Avalon-B was my first ship board posting. I spent most 
of my career on Starbase  12. I was assigned here when the XO Cmdr....or rather 
Captain Skyler and another  crew member had some problems with a procedure 
they had undergone. I was  assigned as their personal physician. Since then I 
have just been filling in as  needed."
 
    Mahler nodded.  "Well, I'm quite sure you'll be doing a lot more than 
just 'filling in,' as it's  a big ship and I imagine we have a lot of work cut 
out for us. I'm glad there  are people here who know the ship well because I'm 
a 
new arrival and I didn't  even expect to be placed on a ship this size, nor 
in a position like this." He  paused. "In the past it was just on freighters 
and supply ships, and as a Nurse  or Assistant Medical Officer. Being here is 
going to take some getting used to  and I trust you can be of immense help 
here, 
Doctor Cazook."
 
     Looking over her  bifocals, Alexis looked at the new cmo, "I will do the 
best I can Dr. I'm sure  your abilities are more than adequate or you would 
not have been posted here. I  just thought I would stop by and introduce 
myself. If there is anything you need  just let me know."
 
    "Thank you very  much, Doctor Cazook," replied Mahler, smiling. "Right 
now I'm just familiarizing  myself with the place, but I'll keep your offer in 
mind just in case. And thank  you for checking in so punctually." I have a 
feeling she's going to be one  of the best Doctors on the whole staff, he  
thought.
