<USS Avalon> "Friends" by Lt. Marksbury

"Friends"
By Lieutenant First Class Elissabeth Marksbury

When she arrived back at her quarters, Lissi found a message waiting for her.
Not now, she thought, wanting nothing more than to find her way to bed. It
had been an exceedingly long day and didn't end exactly on the best note with
her and Sierra's arguement.

The message was from Lt. Maturin and said two words: Call me.

Sighing, Lissi sat at her console and made the connection to Maturin. He
looked like she woke him up.

"It sounded urgent," she offered by way of apology, running her hand through
her hair.

"No, I just wanted to check on you. The last three friendly messages I left
have gone unanswered, so I figured..." Even just waking up, he still had that
boyish smile that Lissi loved so much. "I miss you, you know?"

"I'm sorry, James, I've just been so busy."

"It shows."

"Thanks."

"I didn't...Anyway, have you decided what we talked about?"

"Yeah. I'm good with things like they are if you don't mind keeping quiet
about it. Skyler came and talked with me today - asking questions about things
she remembered as well. She has decided to keep things quiet, so I will too."

"No problem." He paused as if he were thinking of what to say next. "Lyryn?"

Lissi opened her tired eyes a bit more in response. "Hmm?"

Seeing how tired he was, he changed his mind. "Nothing. Get some sleep and
I'll talk to you later. If you need anything - even just to talk, call me."

"Mmm, okay."

"Promise?"

"Yeah, I promise. Goodnight James," she smiled and clicked off the comm. She
couldn't wait to fall into bed. Tomorrow was another day.
