Family Matters
by Senior LT Caine Reilly McKinsely
Caine sat staring at the wall across from her desk. There was a picture of the
sunset over beautiful mountains on Betazed but nothing of it registered in
Caine?s mind, as she seemed to focus on a point that was behind the painting.
Sighing she sat up in her chair and looked at the message that was on her
screen once again. She had contacted Hannah?s only living relative, her
grandmother on her father?s side and Caine had just now received a response
from the old woman. It seemed Sharon, Hannah?s grandmother, was interested in
meeting her grandchild and is beginning to wonder whether or not she could take
the child in and raise her.
It both saddened Caine but at the same time gave her hope. She knew that
Hannah wouldn?t really have a normal life, living on the Avalon and with Caine
and she knew that it would be so much better for Hannah to be raise by someone
that could give her all the love and attention she needed. But at the same
time it saddened Caine to think of giving up the girl, Hannah and Caine had
grown so close and there was a real love between them but Caine knew she wasn?t
the best person to raise a child, at least not yet, not with working full time
and not having all the free time to spend with Hannah, as well, it was hard to
raise a child on her own.
Caine decided that she would respond to Sharon and see if it was possible for
them to meet and talk. Caine also decided she should go tell Hannah that she
found her grandmother and begin to prepare her to meet her grandmother.
This decided, Caine put aside her personal thoughts and called for Garrett to
send in the next client.
