Enemies Within
by Colonel Alder Shimbrodus and Colonel Soliel
Alder sat back with legs to the table and hands behind his head. His eyes were
closed, thoughts wandering about as he waited for the Second Officer to show
up. It was one of their meetings again. He hated meetings with her, no matter
how un-necessary he thought it was.
Even if he weren?t a power monger, Soliel still wouldn?t like Alder Shimbrodus.
He was a dangerous man because he had no self control over his desires or
ambition. Standing out side the conference, Soliel had to take a deep breath
and promise herself that after this meeting she?d go take a hot shower.
"Colonel." She greeted as she walked into the room.
There was a sudden clank as he threw the PADD across the table without
acknowledging her until he felt as if the she would get annoyed. If only a
little. "Colonel," Alder greeted finally as he sat back up, "whats your latest
update in engineering? I hear one person has gone... missing, in his duties."
"We are running at peak performance as always." Soliel reported with great
pride lacing her voice. Her department ran perfectly and a lot of that was due
to her people, they hard for her. "Gone missing?" She asked as looked at the
arrogant pig. "I am unaware of any of my people neglecting their duties."
"Half the time they're scared shitless of you," Alder replied reaffirming the
accessment he got about engineering. "A crewmen... Murphy?... yes, Murphy has
requested transfer and you've died him in three instances. Why?"
Soliel lowered herself gracefully into a chair. Sitting back, she crossed her
legs, and looked right at the pig. "Murphy has the making of one hell of an
engineer once he finishes growing a back bone."
Alder laughed, "that's it, huh? Alright I see how that would be good for
denying him what he wants."
"We?re in the middle of a war, Colonel. What he wants is irrelevant." Soliel
retorted evenly. By the gods what she wouldn?t like to do to this man on the
holodeck.
Alder smirked, "so as I see, our next attack is gonna be a lot rougher. Fucking
Breens are after Betazed, will your repair teams be ready?" He looked right
past her as he asked. Alder had to remind himself to be careful what he was
thinking. Pyschic training compliments of Anthony in their pasts.
Soliel?s heart stopped but she didn?t allow herself to express the emotions she
felt over the danger her homeworld was in. She pushed the fact that her parents
were on Betazed, out of her mind. "My repair teams are always ready. Did you
not see how seamlessly and quickly they made repairs after you allowed the
Risians to hit us?"
"Maybe if that bleeding heart of a General we grew a backbone of his own, we
wouldn't have been hit in first place. I did what was necessary. Maybe Murgo
needs a reminder of our mandates about traitors," Alder quietly hissed, hot
eyes glaring at her. He sat back, reclaiming the PADD and putting it away at
the small counter behind him.
"If you would have remembered what your place is on this ship, Daniel would
have handled the situation and it would have been done the right way." Soliel
had to keep her temper in check. There was no way she was going to allow this
pig to insult Danny that way. "Daniel would have destroyed the planet before
they even had the change to send response ships."
"Oh, right, while he's couped up in his office doing god knows who or what,"
Alder retorted. "Sitting in the system for three days, and you call that
effective planning? Maybe if..." he perked his eyebrow at the first name basis
Soliel called the General on, "... Daniel would've taken care of shit
immediately, I wouldn't have taken command. Besides, if I didn't act, what
would Engineering be good for?" Alder said with shoulders shrugging.
Soliel smiled that twisted smile she always got just before one of her crops
made contact with bare wet flesh. "If you were more of a man rather then a pig
perhaps you could find out what engineers are good for. The difference between
you and Daniel is the fact that he does take the time to plan. You act out of
lust. Fast, short, and inaccurate."
Alder returned that same smile, but with different meaning, "and look where it
got us. Traitors are dead, and we're headed for Betazed to protect your
precious home. Mustn't have it lost like mine." His voice light in response as
he blinked at her for a moment, "besides, nothing with short, and rash
decisions. Look where I am."
"Sitting in the shadow of a man who has more then you ever will." Soliel
replied. "You can keep piling up the body count as much as you want, Colonel,
but when this is all over it?ll be his name in this history texts and yours
won?t even warrant a footnote."
Damn, Alder cursed himself, he let himself slip. Thoughts of Anthony flying
about and he didn't catch it. Ignoring the double entendre, Alder shrugged, "I
could get a command of my own. But my reasons are for my concerns only. At any
rate, you're dismissed, Colonel." He smiled politely as he interlaced his
fingers in front of him. Their dislike of each other, and the constant arguing,
wouldn't end. Certainly not now.
Soliel laughed. "Your own command?" Standing, Soliel wiped tears from her eyes
from laughing. "Michael Jackson called, Sir, he?d like you to leave never
neverland." Soliel hated being dismissed by this pig, but she hated sharing the
same space with him even more. "Enjoy your evening, Colonel." She smiled at him
once more before turning on her heel and walking out.
