<USS Avalon> "Duty Calls."

"Duty Calls."
By: Ensn. Melanie Redgrave

A second call came blaring into the forensics lab for Ensign Daros, and then
a third call but this one was more general, it had been made to simply
forensics. Melanie looked around the maze of laboratories but didn’t seen
anyone.
"Perhaps their all working on another assignment." She said aloud as she walked
towards a set of lockers in the back of the trace lab. Her information kit had
contained a locker number and a code so she could open it. She figured it
would be where she kept her scene kit, lab coat, goggles, and other tools as
well
as her personal effects. She found locker number 1047 and opened it. She was
surprised to see that everything she needed was already there. She quickly
changed her lock code to something more personal, stashed the small gray sample
kit she’d put together earlier in the back under her lab coat, which was
still
in it’s plastic cover, and then grabbed her scene kit.

Forensic tricorder, sample vials and bags, several sample collection tools,
an assortment of brushes and powder, ultra violet glasses and camera, a verbal
note recording device, and gloves all sent into their little out lined places
and ready to go. Melanie shut the carry case and it clicked to let her know it
was locked. "Computer record voice message for Ensign Daros."

"Began recording when ready."

"To: Ensign Daros. From: Ensign Redgrave. Our presence is requested in the
Captain’s ready room. I have already responded with a base scene kit. I’ll
be
waiting for you there."

Melanie set the message to be played the moment her DCO stepped into the labs
and hoped as she made her way to the turbo lift that she wasn’t over stepping
any bounds by responding to the Commander‘s call.

"Bridge." Melanie called out as she leaned against the back of the turbo
lift. She sighed a little in frustration. She should have known getting to the
medical lab when the Executive Officer was calling out for her department head
wasn’t the perfect opportunity she had hoped it would be. How could she have
even thought that she wouldn’t be needed?

The turbo lift stopped and it’s door’s hissed open. Melanie walked out onto
the bridge and looked around. She tried to recall the padds she’d looked over
with the ship’s lay out on them and smiled at herself when she spotted the
ready room door. Melanie squared her shoulders and walked towards the door and
smiled at the young security officer who was posted on the door when he let her
in.

The scene inside nearly made Melanie gasp aloud, though she wasn’t sure of it
was the fact that the captain was slumped over his desk dead, or if it was
because Skyler was standing there looking at her. It took a moment for Melanie
to find her voice but finally after looking away from Commander Skyler just
enough so it looked like she was still looking her in the eye, she managed to
say.

"Ensign Redgrave from forensics reporting, Ma’am."
