<USS Avalon> Doctor to Doctor

Doctor to Doctor

by Doctor Brookman and Doctor Felicity Roan

Doctor Brookman cleared his next staff meeting, giving everyone an hour extra
to get whatever they needed done. But he took his time however, reading up on
Skyler's and Marksbury's case more carefully, trying to make his decisions
before he contacted Doctor Roan.

In thirty minutes he had several decisions to act upon, and by then he was more
than ready to contact her. He was a little surprise she hadn't contacted him
first, as Captain Ketchum had said, she wanted to know what was going on.

"This is Doctor Brookman, I need you to patch me through the U.S.S. Avalon,
specifically to Doctor Roan's office." Brookman pleasantly smiled at the young
ensign.

"Just a moment, Doctor." The screen went blank and it wasn't until a few
minutes later that the words, "Signal Sent" blinked repeatedly. He took his
padd, going over a few things as he waited.

Felicity had just returned to Medical after concluding her meeting with the
Captain when she heard the Computer announce, "Incoming Communication, Priority
One, Doctor Felicity Roan." She frowned and sat at her console and patched the
message through to herself. When she saw the face at the other end of the
screen, she wasn't sure how to react.

"Doctor Brookman, how nice to... hear from you. How are things at Spacefleet
Command these days? I am sure you are very busy." She decided that playing
stupid and ignoring how upset she was would probably be her best course of
action. The Captain had refused to give her any information and a Commodore
was likely to provide even less.

"On the contrary Doctor Roan, I've been quite un-busy," he chuckled, "I was due
for a staff meeting but I decided to contact you first. Captain Ketchum asked
that I contact you as soon as possible concerning Commander Skyler and
Lieutenant Marksbury."

"I admit that I expressed concern to the Captain about being kept out of the
loop on this topic. Not only could it jeopardize the officers in question, but
also the entire crew. That is why I was eager to learn what their condition
was, but the Captain was not able to provide me with any information."

"Yes, it was the feeling I got when the Captain spoke to me. First off, the
reason why you have been kept out was based on Starfleet Intelligence belief to
keep the number people involved to a minimum. Considering the highly classified
nature of Lieutenant Marksbury, I can only give you a few details," Brookman
replied.

She nodded her head slowly and pondered how "few" few really was. She wasn't
expecting anything, so even a little bit of information would be beneficial. "I
see. I do understand their position, but I'm hoping you see mine. Please
continue, Dr. Brookman."

"To be brief, Commander Skyler and Lieutenant Marksbury have gone under memory
erasure. Doctor Cazook, my assistant, was placed on the Avalon to keep an eye
on them. Rest assured, it was just the two of them, and would have no
involvement in ship activities unless it was a medical emergency, where a
Doctor would be handy.

"At any rate, Lieutenant Marksbury's memory of her... previous occupation was a
security threat that Starfleet Command and Intelligence deemed for immediate
action. Considering that Commander Skyler encountered her and was- in the
report- privvy to Marksbury's past livelihood, Intelligence was cleared to
apprehend Marksbury and give both Commander Skyler and Lieutenant Marksbury a
choice for their future. They chose the memory procedure."

Felicity paused ever so briefly so as to take in what just had been revealed.
It was not what she expected to hear, not even in the slightest. "I
see...well, I am a bit surprised. This isn't what I was planning to hear. Are
their conditions such that there is a chance for lapses in to their previous
memories? If so, what is the planned course of action?"

"Currently, Doctor Cazook is assigned to them to watch for any sort of incident
that could resurface their already surpressed memories. Unfortunately, my last
contact with Doctor Cazook has been too long, and considering the troubles
she's faced, I need to know what was happening." Brookman clasped his hands
together.

"I see. Well, please let me know if I can be of any assistance. I want to
ensure that both officers are in good mental and physical health, and of
course, offer assistance to Doctor Cazook.."

Brookman nodded, "which is why I've contacted you, Doctor. Considering that the
updates have been... sporadic, I would like you to watch over them. Doctor
Cazook will be given further orders when you all arrive here at earth. I
believe that you, and Counselor Mckinsely- I'll contact her shortly- will be
invaluable to this case. I also ask you to keep this to yourself until you
arrive at earth."

Before Doctor Roan could say anything, "I know, you want to help immediately,
but I need you to keep this to yourself until I get Commander Skyler and
Lieutenant Marksbury here. Until then, please just keep your eye on them.
Inform me of anything."

Nodding in reply, she added, "Understood Doctor. I appreciate your candor and
faith in the Avalon Medical crew. I am sure that the Counselor and I will be
able to assist. I will rendez-vous with you on Earth upon our arrival. Please
forward an appropriate time and location. I look forward to seeing you then.
Roan out."

Felicity closed the Comm channel and closed her eyes. For the first time in a
very long time, Felicity said a silent prayer for the crew members. She hoped
that this Mind cleansing wouldn't adversely effect them or their personalities.
Now, the trip to Earth, which had seemed to be going quickly, was dragging
along all too slowly. With a sigh, she went to check on rest of the Medical
team's progress on the physicals.
