<USS Avalon> Dinner Break

"Dinner Break"
Elijah Dareth and Melanie Redgrave

Elijah was determined not to say anything to Melanie about the 'meeting' today
with her sister. It still irritated the hell out of him, though, that the
woman got angry because he didn't want to play social call in the middle of the
duty day. He was tired and frustrated and wanted to have his dinner break in
the quiet of his and Mel's quarters.

Just the sight of Melanie curled up on the couch reading put him at ease. God,
how he loved that woman. "Hey, sweetheart," he greeted, coming over to place a
soft kiss on the top of her head.

Melanie smiled as she marked her place in her book and then dropped it onto the
couch. Standing slowly, she slipped her arms around Elijah's neck and then
leaned in and kissed him full on the lips. Pulling back a little she smiled as
she began to play with his hair. "Hello Love." She looked into his eyes a
moment and then frowned. "Everything ok? You look beat."

"I'm much better now," he grinned, kissing his way down her cheek to her neck
and back up to her ear playfully. "Just an interesting day and this is only
dinner break. I still have another couple hours to put in and then a meeting
with the Commander."

She loved the way his kisses made her skin tingle and for a moment, Melanie
wondered if he'd still want to even touch her in a few months. It was hard for
Melanie to step away from Elijah, but she wanted him to actually go back to
work with a full stomach for once. Turning in his embrace, she kept his arms
wrapped tightly around her waist as she lead them towards the table. "You know
in a few months you won't even be able to get your arms around all the way
around me." She teased. Then something he'd said sunk in. "Why are you meeting
Skyler after work?"

"Maybe not your waist," he kissed her ear again as he whispered, "but my arms
will be wrapped around you somewhere, sweetheart, you can count on it." He
gave her a squeeze before he let her go and turned to the replicator for
dinner. "And to answer your question, she called me during work and I was busy
so I promised to meet with her right after work." More like she ordered me to.

Melanie frowned. "This can't be good." She chewed on her bottom lip as she
watched Elijah ordering dinner. "She's not adjusting well to the new turn
things have taken. What does she want to talk about, Love?"

"Me."

A tight knot formed in Melanie stomach. "Why does she want.. Oh good grief.
She's going through with this "I'm doing what our father would have done"
nonsense. I asked her not to be a terrible brute about it. I'm coming with you."

Eli turned around and reached out for her. "Don't worry about it. Really."
As Melanie settled in close, he laid his cheek against the top of her head.
"If this makes your sister happy, then I'll do it." He wasn't going to tell
her what sort of disaster the afternoon had been with Skyler. Hopefully the
woman would be more rational and they'd get along. "I'll be home just a tiny
bit later than normal is all. Besides," he smirked, "you looked like you were
enjoying that book."

Melanie blushed and was really glad that her cheeks were hidden with her head
tilted the way it was. "Just something I haven't read in years." She paused a
moment. "Don't let her get to you, Love."

"I won't. She's your sister and even if she is going about this all wrong, I
still intend to love her as a part of your family. She's our child's aunt and
she's welcome, even if she drives me crazy, in our home and in our lives."
Leaning down, he took a moment to kiss her right and proper.

Melanie moaned into the kiss and could feel herself go weak in the knees. When
they pulled away she still held onto him. "Ya know kissing me that way is how
we ended up with the wee poppet in the first place." She smiled and then leaned
up and kissed him softly on the lips. "Thank you, Love. I only wish she would
see things that way."

"She will. I hope. We'll show her, won't we, poppet?" he asked Melanie's
still very flat stomach.

It had been the first time Elijah had addressed the baby and the simple gesture
sent a warm rush of glee through her body. A huge smile lit up her face while
she laughed at his use of the baby's nickname. Somehow poppet didn't have the
same ring to is when said with a Tennessee accent rather then and English one.
"Is it to soon to start make a names list?"

"I think we should name her Buffy."
