Defending the Temporal Prime Directive
By Ensign Mary O'Donnell and Captain Keith Ketchum
Keith saw the ship come through the wormhole, and once so, he deactivated the
view screens on the Main Bridge and Battle Bridge and the scans of the newly
appearing ship, if anyone tried to start it back up, they would receive a
message advising of the Temporal Prime Directive. He couldn't prevent them
looking out the windows, but alas that was not an issue with boarders.
As the enormity of the situation the ship was in became clear to Mary, rage
began to build within her. She was trapped in a box with two of the most senior
officers on board watching the rest of the crew doing their level best to repel
the boarders.
Her grip on the phaser rifle had unconsciously tightened again, her jade eyes
flashed with gold fire. "Fuck this." She muttered. "Captain I want out of here
now."
She moved between the viewscreen and two men. "I request that I be allowed to
return to the Bridge and help co-ordinate the defense of this vessel. My duty
is to this ship and crew, not to sit in this hi-tech priest hole with two men
who should be leading by example." She could hear the blood surging in her
ears. "You profess to be the best ship in the 'Fleet, yet at the first sign of
trouble the Captain scurries away and hides. If those bastards are from the
future or at least have help from there don't you think that they might have
knowledge this fucking ridiculous protocol?"
Her voice dropped in volume as her wrath increased, "Two of the ranking
officers on a starship cannot just disappear into thin air. If it's you they
are after Sir, they will be well aware that you are still on board and will
tear this ship apart to find you. Hell, they might even beam straight here and
then your balls are in the fire 'cos this place is indefensible once they get
in." Eyes narrowed and brow creased as the fury climbed to its peak. "What
happens if they initiate the self-destruct? I presume this place will survive.
Then they'll have found you won't they?"
She could barely hear anything above the pounding of her heart now, "I think I
was right when I said this was abduction Captain. I followed you here to
protect you, thinking you had some plan to take on the arseholes overrunning
your command. If you are just going to sit here until its all over I want no
part of it, let me go do what I've been trained to do, protect your fucking
ship!"
With pure adrenalin coursing through her veins Mary's face hardened and she
turned the phaser rifle on the two men. "Is one of you going to show me how to
get out, or do I have to stun the pair of you so I can work it out for myself
without interruptions?" She hissed.
Keith sits back in his chair, looking over at the Ensign, listening to the
obvious anxiety laced tirade. Trying to decide whose toothbrush she would be
using to clean the Warp-Nacelles and the ship's lettering, on the outside.
"Ms. O'Donnell, true, you are a security office first and foremost. And I did
take you from that duty to be my personal bodyguard. But what you have just
said is borderline court-martial." Keith tapped a hidden button on the desk
and the holo-panel where the lift was disappeared, "Mr. Shimbrodus, you are
free to leave also, and take the Ensign with you, before she regrets anything
else that she says. If anyone asks, I am 'No Where', and leave it at that."
His looked dared her to say anything more.
He watched them as they left. Temporal issues were the worst, as he knew.
Being one of the officers in the Temporal Division, he had to protect himself,
from capture, as he knew past, present and future. That is why they were given
this mission to begin with. Now he would await the call, he was sure would be
coming from the appearing ship shortly.
