<USS Avalon> Death Whispers

Death Whispers

by Lieutenant Commander Anthony Manson and Senior Lieutenant Alder Shimbrodus

"You can?t be serious about this."

"What did you expect? It?s not like the man is giving us a choice, Alder."

"I know that, but," Alder nearly ran into an Ensign had he not quickly move out
the way, "this is murder."

"That?s what it sounded like to me," Anthony acknowledged it as he turned the
corner and headed into the turbolift.

"You?re going to do it? Just like that? Just because this agent says so."

Anthony looked at his partner. The thought of going back to committing murder
sent a shiver down his spine. Alder looked at him, angry eyes fixed on Anthony
that looked like brown flames.

"Yes."

"Damn it, how can you? How can you just agree to it? This is Commander Sierra
we?re talking about. It?s not like you can waltz in and shoot him on the spot,"
Alder made a frustrated gesture as he paced the turbolift.

"Which is why you?re gonna help me," Anthony responded softly.

"You can?t be serious."

Anthony just nodded, "you don?t think I told you just because it was the only
right thing do you? I included you because you needed to know. Because if it
ever came down to you or I, it would be me. I told you what you had to know.
And with that I thought that you?d understand the risk I?m taking with your
knowing."

"I do," Alder looked around in the small confinement.

But Anthony continued, "Notice the guy said it would take more than phaser
shot? I believe him. For heaven?s sake, Alder, he?s not in charge of security
for nothing. Besides, if you help, we get this," he hesitated a moment, "job...
done quicker. And it?ll ensure that you?re safe. That?s all that matters."

Alder fell silent, the lift was taking a lot longer than usual, "You really are
going to do this."

Anthony got in front of him, "I am. And I will. But it?s going to be hard."

"You seem to have the codes for the ship, no doubt section will activate those
codes again for you to use," Alder responded.

"Yes, but what the man failed to admit is that Sierra is with Section."

That made Alder frowned, "that bolt must have gotten you harder than I thought.
He said Sierra wasn?t with section."

Anthony looked up, "then why include Sierra in the same breath? Section- as far
as I see- has never felt Starfleet was adequate to deal with anything past
shooting a few aliens here and there and policing. Secondly, why in any way,
would section want to kill a very valuable Starfleet officer if they have such
a low opinion about Starfleet in general? One would think they have the common
sense to keep a guy like him as long as they could. Don?t you think?"

Alder shook his head, "you?re reading it all too much."

"Or I?m reading only the surface of it. Section may be ruthless, but they
aren?t stupid. They wouldn?t want a bad commander, or bad captain. And
Commander Sierra- since I don?t know the man- seems pretty decent. I?ll read on
his record today. Besides, he had to have done something bad enough to catch
the eyes of Section."

Alder sighed and looked into Anthony?s grey eyes. They were far and distant,
like Anthony wasn?t there anymore. Alder gave him a searching look, it was
completely alien to him. Alder swallowed, "if you can do this, I can help."

A grim smile came from Anthony, "thanks. I think."

"So how do we plan on... killing the Commander?"
