<USS Avalon> "Damage Control" by Sierra, Manson, and Marksbury

"Damage Control"
By Commander Javan Sierra, Senior Lieutenant Anthony Manson, and
Lieutenant First Class Elissabeth Marksbury

Sierra walked into the conference room with two more security officers in tow.
He surveyed the damage before singling out Marksbury with his gaze. It was an
effort not to glare daggers at her and he wasn't succeeding.

"Report, Lieutenant."

Manson looked to his right at the sound of Sierra's voice and straightened
himself from leaning against the wall.

Standing to attention, Marksbury replied, "There was an incident with the Rydyn
delegates, sir. Sr. Lt. Manson had called this conference and the Ambassadors
didn't like what he had to say. They began an old time bar brawl, Commander.
The situation was quickly brought under control when Lt. Manson was forced to
stun one."

"Forced?" His eyes traveled to Manson and narrowed harshly. "Why was Mr.
Manson forced to stun one? You had more than enough security officers here."

"Yes, sir, I did. I took the Lt. to safety outside the room and asked him to
stay there to prevent further irritation to the Rydyns. I believe he was under
the impression we needed the help."

"Have you notified medical of the situation?"

"Yes sir. They've already taken the Ambassador to sick bay, accompanied by
Ensign Dareth."

"Lieutenant, please place an official report on my desk within the hour and
prepare all of your security officers for a full debriefing once I'm done here,
understood?" He shifted his gaze from Marksbury back to Manson and then
settled on Marksbury again, waiting for her response.

"Absolutely, Commander. The situation is under control. I just wanted you
informed to prevent any miscommunication." No matter how intimidating Sierra's
gaze was, Lissi refused to wilt, knowing that she did everything just as she
should've - except perhaps having Lt. Manson restrained in the corridor. She
just hasn't expected him to come back inside.

Javan smiled slightly and asked, "Did this meeting accomplish anything?"

Glancing at Manson, Lissi answered, "I think perhaps the Rydyns know now we are
serious when we say to stay put. I have one in the brig who is not going to be
released until we get to Earth. And when Lt. Manson fired that phaser, sir,
they all froze. I think
they finally realize they've pushed too far. Only time will tell, I suppose.
I over-rode their door commands and they are confined to quarters now. I'm
just tying up loose ends." She returned the Commander's smile half-heartedly
wondering when Manson was going to speak up so that she didn't have to do all
the talking or question answering. "If there's nothing else, sir?"

"You're dismissed, Lieutenant. And, good job. I see that leaving the Rydyns
in your more-than-capable hands was the right decision." Sierra nodded to her
let her know she was clear to leave.

Lissi was surprised to hear such praise, but wasn't surprised to hear the hint
of sarcasm. "Thank you, Commander," she said sincerely, choosing to ignore the
sarcasm.

As Marksbury left the room, Commander Sierra swiveled on his heel and stared at
Manson. "I'm afraid I can't say that I'm happy with the way the situation was
handled. It may have achieved an objective, but the means were uncalled for.
What were you thinking, Lieutenant?" He folded his arms, waiting for an answer.

Manson looked at the commander, "I was going to make it a simple statement
about the importance of staying where they were asked to, sir. I'm sure you
received the report of one of the delegates coming on the bridge, accessing the
computer."

Sierra nodded, "And that justifies shooting one of them?"

"When I saw one of them about to kick Lieutenant Marksbury's kneecap out, yes,
I felt justified. We had people being thrown around when all this could have
been resolved if Ambassador Oonal hadn't outright punched me."

"Don't you think that the security officers could've handled the situation? I
believe they outnumbered the Rydyns. And the doctors have amazing talents with
corrective surgery. We don't use scalpels or leeches anymore."

Sierra pointed to the doorway as he stepped toward Manson, "In addition, you
came back in the room after a security official asked you to stay out. What
made you think that coming back inside would help the situation?"

Manson blinked, "And do what when I'm outside, Commander? Wait until someone is
thrown out of the room bleeding? I didn't go in there to start a fight, or help
it. I wanted it to stop."

"And you don't think we security officers, who are trained to deal with this
type of situation, could handle it? By doing what you did, you just slandered
what all those people were trained to do."

Manson frowned, "I'm not here to insult their training, or their ability to
handle the situation. I did what I thought was right. And besides, we're on the
same side here. What's wrong with lending help?"

"I don't want to hear it. There were more than enough people to handle the
situation. Have a report on my desk within the hour. But first, get to medical
and have that nose checked out." Sierra turned and walked into the hallway
fuming.
