Covert Operations Interviews - Part 1 - Stone Wallsby Lt. Sussanna Jameson with
Warrant Officer Alexander Gibson and Petty Officer Vevay Davis
"Gibson to Davis, have you completed the interview with Lt. Jameson yet?"
Alexander leaned back in his chair and reviewed the notes of his interview with
Lt. Matthews. He'd been on the away team, seen most of the events, but still
not enough, he hadn't been there for Forester's death. They needed a first hand
account of that event.
"No sir, I haven't. She's turning out to be rather hard to pin down."
"What do you mean?" Alexander sat up at the frustration in Vevay's voice.
"The location given by the computer puts her in Marksbury's quarters, but she's
not there. She's not in Medical either. I'm going to try the Mess Hall and if
she's not there, I'm going to Security to put out a general alert for her
whereabouts."
Standing, Alexander replied, "I'll meet you in the Mess Hall in five minutes."
---------------------------------
Anna stared through her cereal bowl, not seeing it nor anything else in the
hall. She could have had breakfast at Lissi's but she just couldn't cope with
the thought that the woman would come back. In here, she was surrounded by
people and yet still allowed the privacy to be alone.
"You killed him, Anna," her father's voice echoed in her head. Had she? If
she'd completed her medical training, would she have been able to save John?
She'd have known more, that's certain. "Come home, finish your traning, find a
nice little practice and stop playing at soldier." Yeah, maybe. It was
seriously making her think. Not about leaving the Fleet, but about finishing
her course. She'd made a few inquiries and there was a way to do it through
correspondence, but she just wasn't sure what kind of doctor she'd make.
Taking a sip of her coffee, she flinched when she found it cold. How long have
I been sitting here? she mused as she got up and headed over to a replicator to
refresh her coffee. The doors to her right swished open to admit a tall, black
NCO, shortly followed by another, younger NCO both in purple uniforms.
Alexander recognised the tall Lieutenant immediately from her picture on her
file. Who could mistake that hair? Crossing the room, he saluted smartly and
said, "Lt. Jameson?"
"That's me," Anna said, a little curious.
"My name is Warrant Officer Gibson and this is Petty Officer Davis, we are
officers of the Judge Advocate General's office and we are here to interview
you about your involvement in the events leading up to the destruction of a
Ferengi Marauder."
"My involvement? I wasn't even aboard the ship." Oh God, they're gonna ask me
about John.
"But you were a part of the team that retrieved the romulan scientist, were you
not?"
"Of course." Keep your answers short and accurate. Don't give them too much
information.
"Is there somewhere a little more private that you would prefer us to conduct
this interview?" Alexander watched Anna's face intently, but she seemed totally
unphased.
"I was in the middle of my breakfast and I have nothing to hide, so here is
just fine." Picking her cup out of the replicator, Anna strode back to her
mushy cereal and took a very deliberate mouthful, despite its disintegrated
state.
Alexander kept a few paces back and whispered to Vevay that she was to take
control of the interview. "If you get stuck, I will help you. I promise."
Glancing over at him, Vevay nodded even though her stomach felt like it was
being tied in knots. They seated themselves opposite the Lieutenant and Vevay
set out her PADD, setting it to record over her previous, botched attempt at an
interview. This time, I'm going to sodding check first. "Please state your name
and rank for the record."
"Name: Sussanna Catherine Jameson, rank: Lieutenant Junior Grade."
"Please detail the events leading up to the death of Yeoman John Forester."
"What has this got to do with the destruction of the Ferengi Marauder?" Anna
sat back and analysed the pretty young lawyer with cold, steel eyes.
"Just answer the question." Oh please answer it, Vevay thought.
"The details of that event are in the report I submitted to my Commanding
Officer, one that I am sure you have read. I will not sit here and repeat
myself."
Okay, changing track. "Could you explain the nature of your relationship with
the deceased?"
"I could, but I won't. I do not see the relevance of that question to your
investigation."
Oh God, now what do I do? Glancing sideways at Alexander, she tried to ask for
help without making it look like she was floundering.
He saw her look and jumped in. "Please answer the question, Lieutenant."
"I did." Anna took another sip of her coffee and tried not to smile. These
people should learn to ask the right questions. "You asked me if I could
explain the nature of my relationship with John. This question I have answered."
Frowning at Jameson, Alexander rephrased the question. "Explain the nature of
your relationship with Yeoman John Forester."
"Why should I? Of what relevance is it?"
"That is not under debate. You will answer the question or you will face formal
charges." Alexander was beginning to understand the intimate closeness of this
team. He'd gone through something similar with Matthews and then there'd been
the Marksbury interview. Cross had been so angry about that, Alexander had
almost wet himself laughing. After that, he had a deep respect for the CO of
the Covert Ops team.
"I see." Downing the last of her coffee, Anna considered her answer. They'd
spent a lot of their off-duty time together, she'd grown to see him as a little
brother: someone to take care of, keep safe. She hadn't done her job very well.
They'd even swapped books and the like, sharing each others' lives. She'd never
had that with anyone other than her mother, she'd probably never have it again.
"John Forester was a member of the same Covert Operations team as myself and
various others. He was also a very close friend. There is nothing more I can
say about him."
"Do you know what his relationship with his parents was like?"
"I know his mother is dead and his father is a Warrant Officer on the USS
Enterprise, where he grew up. Other than that, no, I have no idea."
"And his brothers? How did he get on with them?"
"Again, I have no idea."
"Are either of his brothers in Starfleet?"
"One is, I think. But as I said, other than that, I have no idea."
"And his father, were you aware that Warrant Officer Mark Forester was once put
on charge for striking the Captain of this ship?"
"No, I wasn't aware of that." What the fuck are they implying?
"Would you be able to speculate as to the reasons for such an outburst?"
"Since I have already told you that I was not aware of it, I would not be able
to tell you the reasoning behind it."
"I asked you to speculate."
"No." Crossing her arms under her breasts, Anna sat up in her seat and glared
at the lawyers.
"I see." Alexander flicked his PADD out of his pocket and consulted it briefly.
"And his relationship with the other members of the Covert Operations team,
could you tell me a little about that?"
"No."
"Please try to be more cooperative, Lt. Jameson."
"I cannot tell you of his relations with other people, I have no knowledge of
that."
"Was he well liked?"
"I think so. To be honest, I don't converse with my colleagues much about
anything other than work related issues. I am really not the best person to
ask."
"Is there anything else that you would like to add?"
"Only that I still do not see the relevance of this line of questioning."
"So noted." Alexander stood and offered the Lt. his hand. "Thank you for your
cooperation. We will be back in touch if we need to question you further."
Taking his hand, Anna merely nodded and continued eating her cereal. She
watched in cold calculation as the two lawyers marched out. "What are they
trying to pin on whom?" she muttered.
