"Comforting a Friend"
Cmdr Skyler and Lt. 1st Class Georgia Lewis
 
 
Georgia was in sickbay when she heard the news about Cmdr. Marksbury. The  
first thought on her mind was Skyler. Hows much more cans that girl takes?  
First her parent's, thens her sister, her husband and nows the Cmdr.
 
She left sickbay, not bothering to change out of her uniform and ran to  
Skyler's quarter's. She didn't see a light coming out from under the door yet  
the 
computer had told her that Skyler was in her quarter's. Thank God dat  child 
aint in the holodeck!
 
Having cried herself out, Skyler had fallen asleep on the couch. She was in  
such a deep sleep that she didn't hear the door chime for sometime. When she 
did  hear it she ran to the door expecting it to be Elissabeth. When the door 
opened  she saw Georgia standing there. She looked at her for a moment and 
walked back  to the couch.
 
Georgia had seen the red rimmed eyes, the drawn look and Skyler's rumpled  
uniform. She walked in allowing the door to close behind her. "Ms. Skyler, Is  
jest heard bout Cmdr. Marksbury. Is so sorry. Kin I do anything for you?"
 
Without even looking up Skyler spoke softly, "Can you bring them all back?  
Can you bring my parent's back, Henry, Sunni, and anyone else that left? If not 
 then there is nothing you can do. I am fine so you can go back to whatever 
you  are supposed to be doing."
 
Georgia looked at Skyler and shook head. "Oh honey, dun't yous think If'n I  
could brings'em back I would. I miss my Henry jest as much as you do. Same for 
 your momma and daddy. Sunni is here Ms. Skyler. Yous knows that."
 
"Maybe."
 
Walking over to the couch she sat down next to Skyler and pulled her close,  
laying her head in her lap. For several minutes neither spoke. Georgia sat 
there  quietly stroking Skyler's hair and could feel the subtle movement of her 
body as  she began to sob quietly.
 
"Sshh, Ms. Skyler. Everythins gonna be jest fine. 'member hows Henry was  
always sayin that whens he lost someone, that he really didn't lose them. They  
had jest moved onto a better place, with God. They felt no more pain or  
suffering. 'member that? Theys were in a happier place and watching over the  
rest 
of us. Is know to this day that my Henry is watching over us both. Sumtimes  I 
think I kin feels him next to me, guiding me along."
 
Skyler didn't say a word. She was out of words to say. She didn't know what  
to feel or even how to feel. She just let her head rest in Georgia's lap. At  
least for that brief moment she felt safe. No one could hurt her.
 
Looking down Georgia could see the tears in Skyler's eyes and brushed them  
away. Skyler reached up and took Georgia's hand and wrapped it around her 
chest.  "No one understands me like you do Georgia."
 
Georgia pulled Skyler closer and started to slowly rock her back and forth.  
"Honey, yous got to give'em a chance to kit to know yous the way Is do. Yous  
can't be so hard on yourself."
 
"That's easier said than done Georgia. Other than you, I've had no one to  
protect me or care for me. It's all I want is for someone to care for me and  
accept me for who I am. Stupidity and all. You and Henry did, especially when I 
 
did all those stupid things growing up. Like when I fell out of the tree,  
breaking a rib and smashing your prize tomato's. Or the time I ran away into 
the 
 woods looking for the herbs and things Henry needed. Remember I was lost for 
a  couple of days? Yet neither one of you got mad at me or turned me away.  
Why?"
 
"Thats easy Ms. Skyler. Wes loved yous. Is admit yous was a testing child.  
Sumtimes I didn't know who was worse, yous or Eliza Mae. But it don't make no  
nevermind, cause we loved you an there were nuthin you could do that was gonna 
 change that. You still hasn't changed that. Nuthin yous do is gonna change 
that.  Is always gonna loves you. No matter what yous do."
 
Skyler looked up at the older woman, "Could you stay  here tonight? I  don't 
think I want to be alone."
 
"Of course, Ms. Skyler. I weren't planning on leavin anyways. Yous jest  rest 
your head for awhile thens we'll sees bout feeding yous."
 
Before she fell asleep, Skyler whispered, "I love you  Georgia."
