Cleaning out the Avalon B Part 1
By, Adrian Phillips, Delaney Scott, Walker Texas Ranger, Skyler.
The click on his boot was a soft but audible sound as Adrian turned to
the door and entered the shuttle bay. He had sent the word out to the
companies and then proceeded to suit up. Before he was finished with
that however, he received a message from Walker explaining to him the
situation regarding the new Operations Officer and the telepathic
whiplash she could be expecting at any moment. Since they were of the
same race it only made sense to Adrian to grant Walker his request to
stay onboard to help protect her if this shock were to occur during the
mission.
So Adrian called up Delta Company and his good comrade Dora Fane to
assemble for this mission, and of course the shuttle bay was a bustle of
activity.
Marines, all fully geared up, were moving back and forth as they set
about loading up two of their APC shuttlecraft, which were just now
humming into life. It was with this sudden realization that whomever the
deck officer onboard here had received his message informing her of the
situation and had adequate time to prepare the shuttles. Stepping into
the deck, Adrian looked around for anyone who was needing him at the
moment, knowing that his marines had everything under control for their
launch in the next 5 minutes.
*****
Laney had finished her report on the Regellian shuttle and had just
stood up to stretch a little when her console beeped. Pressing a key,
she saw that a text message had just come from the office of the marine
captain in charge of /Avalon/'s security forces. She knew that they had
at last arrived at the former /Avalon/, which had been hanging dead in
space for some time. The message was brief, stating simply that he would
like the APC shuttles prepped and ready for flight within six minutes.
She had to grin, even though there was no one to see. This Phillips guy
obviously didn't know anything about her, because she knew in an instant
she could have both prepped and ready inside of two.
*****
She'd purposely faded into the shadows, figuratively, anyway, when the
squadron of marines came marching into the shuttle bay. They were
speaking to each other in clipped tones, checking each other's gear and
the shuttles. One of them signaled to a tall, dark-skinned man of
African descent, who merely nodded in return as he surveyed the scene.
Laney decided to be bold. He was certainly an interesting-looking
fellow, observant, alert. . .Marines were supposed to be intelligent as
well as lethal, and to be perfectly frank, she'd never met one. Walking
over she introduced herself. "I'm Ensign Delaney Scott, Mr. . .?"
Adrian turned to the woman who had approached, a Starfleet officer with
a mustard-colored undershirt. He nodded. "Marine Captain Adrian
Phillips, Ensign. You the deck officer?"
Laney nodded. "Yes, sir. If I may, why are only marines going over right
now? I'd have thought some of the old ship's crew would have wanted to
go along."
Adrian's expression was stern. "Thanks for getting our shuttles ready so
quickly. What's up is sensors picked up several life signs on a ship
that doesn't even have an atmosphere. We're going to secure the ship and
detain the looters." He hated looters, but sometimes couldn't blame them
if the situation was that bad for them. If it was purely profit on the other
hand. . .
Laney, although she had not served on /Avalon/'s predecessor, grew
instantly alarmed. Part of her even wanted to go along, to help take
back the old ship from whoever it was that had taken it upon themselves
to rifle through what didn't belong to them.
"You guys be careful," she said to Adrian.
He looked down, and seeing genuine concern on her features, flashed a
reassuring smile and a wink. "We always are. And since you got our
ships ready so quickly for us, I think I'll have to tell Engineering how
impressive
the deck officer is." She was quite pretty in his view, though a bit old to be
an
ensign. Who knows, maybe she decided to join 'fleet later on in life.

Walker, now that Talea seemed to be more confident, tapped his commbadge.
"Ranger to Phillips. With your permission, Sir, I feel that given the
importance of this mission to those who served aboard the /Avalon/-B and
my species' abilities, I could be an asset to the mission, Sir. Can be
there in under thirty seconds, suited and ready." He knew this required
a time-jump, but he knew his energy would allow it. Besides, the needs
of the many outweighed his need to be near Talea during this time of
crisis for her, and she would prefer he not allow her problem to affect
his career, he was certain. He got into his armor, gear and RSMC-issue
ELSS, then teleported down to the proper shuttle bay, waiting the
Captain's word.
Adrian turned to look at Walker now that he had materialized in front of
him and chuckled. "I would have given you a few more moments, so you
could walk over here, Sergeant, but this works just fine. Head over to
the second shuttle and meet up with your company, I'll inform Delta
Company to stay here on patrol, we head out as soon as I enter the first
shuttle." He nodded and gave a salute to Walker, then nodded goodbye to
Laney before turning and heading over to where Delta Company was.
Walker stated, "Yes, Sir." He then proceeded to where he was told to go.
After his squad was aboard, he activated the suit with a crackle
sounding as the suit's fields activated. He was perfectly aware he was
safe from anything short of a crew-served phaser cannon.
Looking around once more Adrian nodded at the fleeting form of Scott before
checking to see that all of the marines needed were assembled into the two APC
shuttles. He grinned silently to himself and then clicked his headset as he set
off towards the first shuttle. "Avalon this is Captain Phillips, we are geared
up and prepared to depart, pending approval."
"Captain Phillips you are cleared for departure and please be careful over
there. Report in as soon as you know what is going on. Good Luck." Skyler could
do nothing but wait now and see what to see what the ultimate fate of the
Avalon-B would be.
"Thats the green light, lets roll!" He stated to the helmsman as Adrian shut
the hatch, watching the other shuttle follow suit as with a small rumble the
APCs lifted off and headed out of the shuttlebay towards the awaiting Avalon B.
