Chancing Luck
by Junior Lieutenant Anthony Manson
Anthony looked up as he saw Sierra and Skyler walk out of the bridge. Not a
moment too soon, the Captain came out and requested for possible tactical
strategies. He placed up the notes that had been stored in case of something
like this. There were several, but considering that the other ship was of
advance technology, Anthony figured that the Avalon had a few seconds to a few
minutes-maximum- gain before the other ship adapted.
There was only one solution so far that he had manage to get out under these
circumstances, and have the hope that they would get out of it relatively
unscathed. It required first- the use of their engines, he had checked out, but
so far no reports came out. Second- in a split second of sequences- a
re-modulation of the ships deflectors to emit a fake reading of another ship-
just like the Avalon- on an intercept course with hostile intent. While that
was happening, Anthony could launch a probe and have it emit a high intensity
burst of artificial light. But someone else- since using phasers was going to
be useless and his hands were already going to be filled- needed to transport
four torpedo casings near what looked like the ship?s engine exhaust ports-
close enough so that contact detonation would be immediate. The overall result
would be a blind-hit tactic. And right now, Anthony could not read out- not
surprisingly- any familiar shields or any kind; it was to be assumed that the
other ship saw the Avalon as no threat and maybe- just maybe- had their
shields down. Once the number of sequence done, Conn would have to get us to a
planet not much more then a year-and-a-half away from their current position.
While that was happening, Anthony would re-modulate the deflector dish again to
give another false readout making it appear that the Avalon was heading the
opposite direction of their intended flight path.
But all this depended on engines being functional so that escaping would be
fast. If it wasn?t, it would be a fight.
Taking a breath, and letting it out, "Captain. I may have something for you but
it requires..."
