"Catching a Ride"

Skyler left Dr. Brookman's office, still not to sure how she felt
about all this brain wipe stuff.   She looked in the mirror, knowing full well
that she didn't look any different just that something was different. She just
couldn't put her finger on it. She wasn't even sure if she was supposed to
remember anything at all. It was all a mass of jumbled neurons in her head or
at
least she thought so. All she knew for sure was she had to get back to the
Avalon and she didn't have much time left to do it in.

After walking around the station for what seemed an eternity, Skyler
finally found a communications console that was available. The only thing left
for her to do was to call the Avalon and see if they could make a side trip
and pick her up. Perhaps then she would have time for a farewell dinner with
Captain Ketchum. It seemed strange to say farewell, after serving with him and
with the now Captain valQis. She never imagined serving with anyone else. But,
then this was Starfleet and they did have a mind of their own.

Having decided what she would say she walked up to the communications
officer on duty and gained access to a private terminal. She entered the codes
given her and proceeded to input her messages. She had to send one to Captain
Flubb, and one to her husband, who, God bless him, put up with her
stubbornness and impulsiveness.

"Captain Flubb, CO USS Avalon, this is Cmdr Skyler you Executive
Officer. I am on Starbase 12 and was hoping that the Avalon could swing by and
pick
me up on it's way to it's current mission. I am stranded here after my
meeting with Captain Ketchum. I would appreciate a ride as soon as possible. I
will
await your reply. Cmdr Skyler XO USS Avalon." She instructed the computer to
send the message.

The next message would be harder to write. How do tell someone you
love that your impulsiveness was an act of stupidity? The best way was probably
in person, which couldn't happen until the Avalon picked her up. Well, she had
to try. So she sat down and after several minutes of thinking she came up with
a plausible message that would hopefully keep the peace.

"Computer send the following message to Dr. Mehdi Idrys, USS Avalon.
My Dearest Mehdi. I am stuck here on Starbase 12, after coming to see Fleet
Captain Ketchum. That seems so strange to say, but it's true. We are stuck with
the Captain who, Yoda like speaks. I just hope that you will not hold this
little escape against me. I had to see for myself, after so many years, what
exactly was going on. I had hoped there would have been time for you to come.
We
never seem to have enough time together. I hope we can remedy that upon my
return. I have sent a message to Captain Flubb asking that the Avalon stop by
here
and pick me up before it starts it's next mission. Hopefully I will see you
soon. Remember you are my Imzadi and will be forever. I promise I will make it
up to you. All my love Skyler."

After going over the letter she had the computer encrypt it for her
husband's eyes only and then sent it off. Now that that was done, all she could
do was wander the station. The communication's officer had promised to let her
know the moment there were any replies for her.

Walking around she found a quite pub and a table in the corner where
she could sit back and relax or at least try. As she sat in the dark with her
eyes closed she started to remember different missions she had been on with
Keith Ketchum and Marc Offenburger. She remembered being trained to find
against
the Cardassians. She also remembered going into the neutral zone, when she
and ensign Chu beamed down to investigate the Borg concentration camp and she
was determined to follow the refugees and save as many as possible. She had so
many fond memories that she couldn't even imagine serving under a new captain.
Perhaps it was time for her to start thinking about moving on, but what would
happen to Georgia. No, she was a Starfleet officer and she would survive this,
if nothing else but to keep the Avalon in one piece.

Captain Ketchum, will always be remembered and never forgotten. But
could he please return to the Avalon and the Captain's chair as well. Will you
always have clear skies in front of you and the wind at your back.
