<USS Avalon> Catching Up With History Part 2 by Junior Lieutenant Anthony Manson

Catching Up With History Part II

by Junior Lieutenant Anthony Manson

Anthony scanned the system, having several objectives to complete. One was the
continual scans for any ships that may enter the system. While the ship was
cloaked, it was best assume that seeing a cloak ship was as easy as playing
dabo. The other was the ships internal systems that was currently being
monitored. And the last was the sensor readings he was getting by intensifying
the Avalon?s main and secondary deflectors to hopefully ascertain the current
condition of this system. In some respects, he was violating the temporal
directive when it was clear that they were not to interact or in anyway
participate in any sort of investigation due to the possibility of being
discovered or contaminating the timeline. Unfortunately, the temporal
directives didn?t cover threat procedures or anything pertaining to survival.
Rules placed up by people that couldn?t possibly imagine what the Avalon might
be up against. So Anthony continued, his scans were limited spanning only Talos
three
through six- which in some way benefitted them enough. Not to mention, they
were also orders.

The Talos system. A system that, in their current time, was inhabited by
several million people. More then several actually. But the planet which
contained the Guarding of Forever was strictly forbidden from any sort of
colonization. Starfleet orders in accordance with the Federation Council was
clear, Talos IV was to remain clear of any planetary involvement concerning
colonization. As for the rest, Talos Three, Five, and Six had become a robust
colony that was steadily growing faster. In 2381, the Talos system was one of
the well known systems for a vacation spot, or an academic red zone to those
seeking success.

With fortune already at it?s side, Talos was fortunate not to be near the front
lines during the Dominion War, but was instrumental helping any ships that was
damaged and providing a safe haven for soldiers in any condition they were in.
After the War, Talos trade boom went up as the Alliance with the Klingon Empire
maintained and the doors of the former Cardassian Union opened up. By 2380,
Talos had become a hot spot for property as Talos Six was approved for
colonization; the system had enough wealth and resources to support the planet
until such time Talos Six could support itself and contribute to the ever
growing system.

But that was not what Anthony saw on in sensors right now. Long range sensors
set to it?s maximum range found that Talos Three, Five, and Six were devoid of
any lives. At first he didn?t believe it. No one would attempt such a thing,
especially to a planet also filled with women and children. But he couldn?t
help but ask himself, could they? Given the fact that the Alpha Quadrant was in
perpetual chaos about a hundred years after the disappearance of the Avalon, it
became a rather appalling possibility that Talos was just another casualty in
the gruesome conflict. He furthered the sensors, pushing the ship?s systems as
far as he could. The first planet was Talos Three.

Talos three was the first colonized planet in the late 2340, proving a good
decision due to increasing populations. As the sensors swept through the
atmosphere of the planet, he found what seemed to be some sort of biological
organism. The sensors couldn?t confirm anything out of it, and the best thing
the computer came up with in correlation of the conflict in the last three
hundred years was the result of a biological attack, or an epidemic that may
have swept through the entire planet. Seismic activity and volcanic eruptions,
not to mention plate tectonic movements, were the only serious changes to Talos
three.

Talos five was much different. Sensors indicated massive amounts of radiation
and what looked like craters on the surface. Due to the high radiation, sensors
were unable to confirm the purity of the oxygen with radiation everywhere, or
any geological displacement that may have occurred. The radiation, however did
confirm one thing, it was created solely by weapons of mass destruction. Such
force to emit this high intensity only meant either torpedoes of mass drivers
could inflict such brutality. Sensors couldn?t confirm exactly what sort of
weapon is was or who it may have been from- no surprise there.

Talos six, the last jewel of the Talos system in 2380 was completely untouched.
There were no bio agents present in the air, nor were there signs of any
radiation or anything else that could have inflicted by weapons fire. It was
completely deserted. As if the entire population of the planet knew something
was going to happen packed everything and ran for their lives. The only
difference was just like Talos three, the basic geological displacements.

He worked through the console with skillful experience when he felt someone
come near him. He looked up, it was Alder, giving a slightly less than amused
look.

"Something wrong?" Anthony asked.

"You?re late...thirty minutes late. For dinner." Alder said quietly, but his
eyes started to slip with humor since being annoyed at Anthony wasn?t an easy
thing to come by.

"Oh, damn, okay. You came just in time, I?m done, I?m done." Anthony quickly
compiled the data and sent it of to the captain. "Actually, give me a sec," he
was unsure if he should send it to anyone else like the commanders that were
now back on duty. If they needed it, he?d send it right away, or have Phillipa
who was taking over send it. Anthony sealed the document, if Phillipa had to
send it, she wouldn?t be able to read it and the override commands by either
commanders would be more then enough for them to unlock. Simply, their superior
stature was enough for them to have it, but not enough for Phillipa or anyone
else in operations- just in case- to access it while he was away.

"Are you done?"

"You are pushy. Shut up so I can get this out." Anthony smiled, shaking his
head as his attention was to the screen. "There, all done. Now let?s go."
