Catching Up With History Part I
by Junior Lieutenant Anthony Manson
It would seem that the plan had gone without a hitch. Which, to his surprise
and near confusion, he didn?t think for one moment it would work. Granted it
was probably the best solution possible to get away, he still thought that five
hundred years of advancement would have stopped their attempts. In any case,
they were already here, orbiting Talos IV. During their little fight with the
ship- if one could call it a fight- Anthony had managed to get information by
accessing their database. It was a quick download, commanding the computer to
pick up anything that it could get. One of those stored information was about
the UCP, and seem to be filled with interesting facts covering one hundred or
so years.
UCP, also known in this quadrant, as the United Corporation of Planets, was a
newly formed political power stretching only a hundred years or so. After
confirming the loss of the U.S.S. Avalon with all hands-according to the
database- history went on until the 2500-2600's. At that point, the United
Federation of Planets was wrought with civil war. A collapse of such a power
split the UFP into three different factions. The Directorate, Emirate of the
People, and the United Federation of Planets- though hanging on just barely.
History further indicated that as the civil war dragged on, it pulled in the
Romulan Star Empire, The Cardassian Union, and The Klingon Empire.
The Directorate allied themselves with the Rihannsu; their objective to
destabilize the other faction and become the dominant one. That goal was also
the same with Emirate of the People and their friends the Cardassians. The last
was the UFP, holding on to the ideals and foundation that created a power never
before seen in the time of the alpha quadrant. It would be a hundred year war
that dragged from major space battles to small skirmishes. A lot of the battles
staked claim to earth, each faction letting their message cleared that it was
earth that would be their founding of a new political body.
According to history, Anthony further read, the UFP succeeded with making peace
between them and the Emirate of the People in 2595. A peace treaty that turned
them to allies and both entities rebuilding earth that was now a barren planet.
Unfortunately as the UFP and the Emirate tried to negotiate more for peace and
a possible reunification to become once more the UFP, the Directorate wanted
nothing of it, and sought to keep fighting. Just as the details were going more
in depth, the information was interrupted and several possibly valuable
information was lost, it must have been the computer during the escape.
But the screen came back again. The UCP as of 2735 was now under the direct
rule of the Romulan Star Empire, but changed it?s name to equally share it
among the Directorate. It would seem that the Directorate was strong enough to
enforce their will to the Romulans to be recognized, and thus formed the new
political entity. And the Cardassians- who seemed to have maybe taken on a new
deal that undoubtedly made them more powerful, betrayed the Emirate and joined
making it a triple alliance. The war did ended in 2689, with Romulus and the
Directorate begrudgingly signing a peace treaty. They went into isolation,
cutting itself off from the rest of the outside universe. No one heard of them
until 2375, when a Cardassian warship declared itself part of the UCP, and
indeed the entire Union. With such a shift in the balance of power, it seemed
again as if war was eminent.
The United Federation of Planets along with the Emirate formed to make a
stronghold of Earth, Vulcan, Alpha Centauri, Betazed, Bajor and several other
surviving systems during the war. In the years of peace between the UFP,
Emirate of the People and the Klingon Empire, each body formally joined into
one permanent body simply stated but known across the Alpha Quadrant as the
Alliance. The treaty wasn?t broken and the fragile peace was kept under
watchful eyes of both sides.
The information ended there, but gave a detail mapping of borders spanning the
current location of the Avalon. Apparently, the Avalon was in UCP territory
when it crossed the rift and thus left stranded while the engines were under
repairs. General orders to all UCP ships was to eliminate any trespassers
unless it was friendly. Currently in this era, there was peace in this
quadrant, yet unstable, it still existed. A Peace Treaty formed on the planet
of Varga II. Avalon?s best bet was to head to the Alliance territory if the
Talos system was determined too dangerous or if they were discovered.
The next objective on hand was the scanning readouts of the ship they
encountered. Engine and weapon systems were not detectable due to sensors being
bounced back. But a sensor sweep of the ships skin structure revealed that
little had changed since the early times of either Starfleet or Romulan, or
Cardassian for that matter. The overall hull structure could be effectively
damaged, but required more effort to actually pierce the tough material.
Anthony was also unable to get any sort of crew compliment, or any other threat
assessment. For now, this would do, hopefully.
A new screen popped up and Anthony read it. Meet me for dinner, my place.
Alder. Anthony looked up with a smile he couldn?t help but give. He saw Alder
looking back and just nodded before helping one of the crewmen.
How tacky is that? Under possible take over, and we?re more interested in
dinner. Anthony thought as he proceeded to his duties.
