Captain's Talk
By Captain Keith Ketchum, Captain Grace Redgrave-Dareth, and Marine Captain
Analu Maluhia
Takes place immediately after 'Future Talks' and before 'Always Something
Else'
As Keith watched Skyler leave the room, he turned back to Grace. "First
things first", he walked over to a comm and opened a channel to outside the
ship, "Mr. Garrity this is Captain Keith Ketchum, and the Captain of the other
vessel of which you were just on, we are both on the Avalon currently, and
wish
to talk to you. I have some highly classified information that must be seen
regarding what may or may not happen. Please respond soon." He closed the
comm. Turning to Grace, "I do hope he responds soon."
"Secondly, these time bombs, what do you think we should do about them on my
ship. I was thinking that I would just pose an order, asking that those
that talked to your crew to not relay that information on. I know it is not a
definite order that they would follow, but I can't afford to have localized
mind-wipes on them."
He continued on, "Now, thirdly, getting you and your crew home to your own
place and time."
Andy didn't mean to but the second item, both parts of it, were out of
question and localized mind wipes were, in their time, considered assault. He
snorted in disgust. They did more harm than good.
"They still do those horrid things in this time?" Grace asked. She
remembered her Aunt telling her she'd had several and it always gave her the
creeps.
"Seeing as this is the past, or at least a version of it, I don't see the
crossovers as much of a problem on our end. I'm sure your crew will do what's
best, or at least I know the older versions of them from my time would.."
Looking over at Andy and then back at Keith, Grace addressed the third issue.
"How
do we get home?"
"I agree that mind-wipes are not the best things to do. As for getting you
home. I wish I had an answer for that, but the only thing that was noted in
my logs from the future were that you were basically dispatched to destroy
all future tech in the Badlands. That could either be the code or that time
in
this reality will be longer that you want. I'd like to think it is a code.
Perhaps, once finding some sort of technology, which I would assume activated
the original wormhole to begin with and use that to create another to get
home. But that is only speculation. The Badlands are full of plasma and
gravitational anomalies, which could be used to the advantage."
Pinching the bridge of her nose, Grace sighed. "This must be how Janeway
felt." Looking up at the other Captain she nodded. "Whatever information you
can
give us will be a big help. As soon as I get back I'll have Mister McEntire
and Mister Li begin work on finding a way home for us."
"Begging the captain's pardon for the interruption," Andy said carefully,
"but I've done a lot of search and rescue. If there's a map or graph, it would
help."
"Alas, all the real information that I have is in that PADD as to what I
know." He knew the predicament that she was in; he was in it a year ago
himself
when his ship went into the future, one that was rather bleak. Turning to
Andy, "As to maps of the badlands, they are limited, as it is difficult to get
an accurate scan of a system, without traversing it first. I know that
there is a Class-M asteroid that was the base of operations for the Maquis."
He
walked to the station in the conference room and brought up a map of the
Badlands. "The asteroid is in this location", he pointed to the map, "And we
are
currently here", another point, "Which isn't far, and probably where the
Maquis were launching the insurgency into the wormhole." He pulled out a
spare
PADD, "I assume that these are compatible with your system, if I download
data to it."
Grace nodded. "Ours are slimmer and more streamlined, but they're still
simply PADDs."
Tapping away for a moment, "This is what I can give you now." He downloaded
the map to the PADD and handed it to Andy. Turning to the window, "I wish you
luck on finding your way home, Captain. I'm sure I will be watching you
grow up, and at least in your timeline, you seemed to have turned out quite
well. Now if we can only get Mr. Garrity to come out of hiding."
Andy muttered under his breath then said, "Captain, when we get home, I'm
recommending the Field Marshal go after these guys. Maquis are causing me
headaches..."
"This temporal stuff isn't helping much with my own, Mister Maluhia."
Standing, Grace turned to Keith. "Thank you for you help, Captain. We'll stick
around until Mr. Garrity is back and then we'll be on our way. I have a crew
to
get home."
Turning back to them, he nodded, "Godspeed, Captain." He watched them beam
out of the conference room. He had to agree with one thing, temporal stuff
made everyone's head hurt.
