Mac gave the captain a nod as he headed back toward the medical area. "Are we
getting close, sir?"
"That we are, Mr. McEntire, about another three hours. How is Mr. Garrity
doing? And our other guest?"
"Josh woke up for a few minutes. Hella cold and pretty damned confused, but I
guess that's to be expected. Gotta tell that damned computer there he don't
need to be sedated though. Who knew an EMH was that touchy." Mac shook his head
in annoyance. "The girl seemed to rouse for a minute, but then slipped again.
She seemed awfully cold too, so we tucked her in a bit better and raised the
temp around them both. We've matched her scans to all crewmen and family
members aboard. Still no idea who she might be."
"Understood. Let's make sure we don't lose her at Izar, I want to know who
she is and why she was on Avalon." Mysteries, Keith hated them.
Mac nodded. "Yes, sir. I'll keep her with Anna and me if you want, once
they've released her. That, or the kid and Belle can hold onto her. Either way,
we'll keep track of her."
"Good deal. Once we get our new ship at Izar, we'll head back to Avalon and
pick up our stuff, and off we go."
"Any chance we'll be able to retrieve the kids shuttle while we're at it? I'm
guessing that's the one thing he's got he'll be put out to lose." Mac wondered.
"Most defiantly. We'll get our personal belongings and other stuff, that we
left. Nothing will be left behind."
"Captain, I think I can get a little more out of the engines, we should be
able to get to Izar in 30 minutes", Phillipa spoke up.
"Make it so."
Phillipa made some adjustments, "Thirty minutes, Sir."
"Mr McEntire, can you inform the crew that when we arrive, we will have
shore-leave while I do the formal arrangements for a new ship with the Admiral."
Mac nodded his approval, turning his attention to the port viewscreen, and
the Avalon fading in the distance. At least this time there were more than a
handful of survivors, he told himself. They'd all escaped. They hadn't failed.
He was convinced that they'd all done everything that could have been done to
save their ship and her crew.
Now if only he could convince Joshua of that.
Brushing away that and any other thoughts of the impossible for the moment,
Mac made the announcement as ordered, then sat back silently awaiting their
arrival at the station and hopefully get their first look at their new home.
Maybe this time they?d even manage to keep her.
I am wounded but I am not dead
I will lay me down and bleed awhile
then I will rise up and fight again
