"Bringing Medical Onboard"
By Doctor Issac Mahler and Major Adrian Jackson Phillips
Sickbay
always seemed like a very, clean place. Particularly considering some of the
carnage brought in, it always seemed clean to Adrian, and this time was no
exception. He
wandered in, looking for Mahler to finish up all of the ties before the Avalon
arrived at their destination.
?
Nurse Rayna Marim nudged Doctor Mahler. "We've got
company," she said softly. "Hmm?" Mahler turned and saw Major
Philips entering. He put down the medical tricorder and said, "Hello,
Major. What can I do for you?"
?
The
major shifted his body as he looked over at the doctor and smiled, even though
he was still in full gear from the previous exercises. "Hi there Doctor,
do you have a minute that we can chat?"
?
Mahler nodded. "Right this way," he said,
leading the way to his office. "By all means have a seat." He waited
for Philips to sit down before seating himself. "So what's up?" he
asked.?
?
"I
imagine you've heard about our mission, either through rumors or
otherwise?" Adrian
asked as he seated himself.
?
Mahler nodded. "Bits and pieces inevitably come
through the ship's grapevine," he said. "Do you have any official
information about this? At the very least I'm going to have to inform Sickbay
personnel as to what sort of casualty level to expect." Although I
doubt that's all he came to tell me, he thought.?
?
"Our
mission involves recovering a lost bioweapon that was stolen from Vega Prime
research facility." Adrian
said simply. "A ship was sent before us, the Resurgence, and was
destroyed by what can be presumed to be the weapon, or weapons. A small number
of escape pods were sent out, but total numbers are expected to be under 30.
?
The
chair felt cold as Adrian
leaned back against it. "My team has been preparing for this, and even
though our orders place the survivors as a secondary objective, Marines don't
operate that way and we will take care of finding them as our first priority.
Here's a crewlist from the Resurgance." Adrian pushed a PADD across Mahler's
desk to
him as he spoke. "I've spoken with engineering and we've refitted the
shuttles for enhanced scanning. However, I need your approval and codes to
allow us to access their individual bio-patterns, which will greatly help us in
finding these people."
?
Mahler studied the data on the PADD and nodded.
"I'll see to it you have them," he said. "Stolen biological
weapon," he muttered, shaking his head. "Sounds like a bad
situation." He looked back up. "All right. Is there anything else you
need?"?
?
"Not
at the moment, though I may need some medical personnel to join us once we head
out to actually find these blasted things. The survivors I think we can handle
as once they are onboard we will most likely just directly beam them to
sickbay, but we may need a medical person with us after that." Adrian leaned
back in the
chair again and smiled. "Is there anything you might need from me?"
?
"This information just about covers everything,
Major," replied Mahler. "And if and when you do need a medical person
with your team, let me know."?
?
He
rose to his feet when the doctor finished talking and nodded, his mind already
beginning to think to the next thing on his list. "Aye, that I will
doctor, that I will. Until then, I hope you stay unbusy." He smiled again
and offered his hand to Mahler.
?
Mahler also rose and shook the Major's hand. "I hope
so, too."?
