<USS Avalon> "Bloody Admin"

Bloody Admin
By Petty Officer Second Class Vevay Davis
and Lieutenant First Class Jayden Cross

The PADD hit the wall and shattered into several pieces with the force of the
impact. He never stood her up, he'd never done it before, how the hell could
he? Vevay stormed across the room, grabbed another PADD and sent a very polite,
almost sickening request to see Captain Scott.

I will not be left behind! This just isn't fair, how could they leave without
her? She'd been set to meet Alexander in the gym but now he wasn't coming
because he had to pack for their move to the Avalon. That was that pile of junk
hooked up outside being repaired because its trigger happy captain decided to
blow a few holes through it.

The message came back telling her that Scott had a little free time to see her,
so she straightened her uniform and put on her sweetest smile and headed out
the door.

"Come in," he said, with disinterest once that annoying little chirp sounded.
The door opened and closed before he bothered to look up. "Miss...Davies, is
it?"

"Yes sir, thank you for seeing me at such short notice, sir." Her smile never
faltered as she tried not to sneer at the piece of shit her commanding officer
took to her bed. He got through women like a horse got through hay. "And that's
Davis, sir. Petty Officer Vevay Davis."

"So, what is it you need, Miss Davis?"

"I just received a memo from my superior, Warrant Officer Gibson? It said that
my department has been moved to the Avalon." Her smile increased and her big
green eyes caught his. "I know it's not my place, but I was just wondering if
there was any reason why I've not been moved with them, sir."

"Hmm," he frowned. "Certainly an oversight, Miss Davies, I'm sure they won't
know what to do without you." The sarcasm dripped from his voice as he picked
up a PADD and tapped in a few commands. "Here. Are we happy now?"

Taking the PADD, she noted her new orders were to report to Cross as soon as
possible. She almost kissed him, she was getting off this station and back onto
a ship, an actual moving ship. Even if it was a groaning pile of junk. "Thank
you sir," she said as she saluted.

"Dismissed," he said with a wave of his hand.

Piles of bags and cases and boxes stood in heaps outside the door to her old
quarters, waiting to be moved to the ship. She had absolutely no intention of
doing it herself and had accosted a passing Yeoman, who was now gathering
everything to move it.

Grinning to herself, Vevay made her way to the ship and to the new offices of
the JAG department. It was in chaos. Lieutenant Cross sat flicking through a
document alone and she looked up when Vevay rang the chime.

"It's about time you got here!" Jayden said to the open door.

Still doing a good impression of the Cheshire Cat, Vevay stood to attention.
"Reporting for duty, sir." Releasing the salute, she said, "They fucked up my
orders, had to see Captain Scott to sort it out. Oh how I fucking hate Admin!"

Jayden smiled crookedly at the spunky little secretary. "Aren't you Admin? And
yeah, Scott's an ass, but he?s a man. It?s typical." Disgusted, she threw the
file she was toying with onto the increasingly cluttered desk. Alexander had
been trying to keep up with her, but it just wasn't possible.

"Well, yeah, I guess I am, but that's different." Wandering in and picking up
the discarded file, she said, "What are we up against this time? Taking down
the Captain who doesn't like his ship very much?"

"More like trying to save his ass. But this is the good part, Vev... they send
me here to head up this investigation because according to Scott, I'm the "bull
dog" they need to do this. I get here and find some bastard strutting his stuff
around my office. Out ranks me." Her eyes narrowed. "I am not happy."

Vevay almost giggled but definitely knew not to. Narrowing her eyes, she
dropped the file and said, "So, how big's his staff then, this new JAG officer?"

"You're looking at it. We're his staff," she spat with venom.

"No, we're your staff. Gibson and I only take orders from you. That's the
point, isn't it?" Slipping into a chair behind the only vacant desk, she looked
at her superior and smiled. "And are there any orders, sir? I'd suggest putting
glue on his chair, but it's a bit childish."

"Damn right you're my staff, but we're gonna play nice with the walking ego.
Not fucking up a promotion because I don't know how to take orders." Rolling
her head back and then from side to side in hopes to relieve some of the
stress, she told her, "Right now we just need to get this damn office in order.
I can't stand it. I'm trying to study the profiles of this command staff, all
those on the Bridge at the time of the incident, and that inept covert ops
team. In the meantime, our illustrious "leader", God bless him," she added
snidely, "is nowhere to be found."

"Okay," Vevay said as she stood again and headed to another pile of files. "I'd
better get started then, would you like me to get you a coffee first?"

"That's what Alexander is doing right now. Couldn't give us a work center with
a replicator or break room, could they?"

"That's Admin for you." Lifting one of the piles, she dumped it on her desk and
started flicking through the top one. "Interesting lot, aren't they? I'll start
getting reports done for you, ma'am, as quickly as I can."

Jayden looked up, happy for the eager to please secretary to have joined her.
"Good. Now, tell me, was Scott already fucking the next ambitious girl in line?"
