"Between Sisters"
Lt. First Class Melanie Redgrave & Cmdr Skyler

Skyler was sitting in her quarter's going over her encounter with Lissi or
Lyryn, and was still a little shook up. Not only was she dealing with coming
to terms with finally realizing she had a sister, now she was concerned for her
friend. Unfortunately there wasn't much Lissi/Lyryn was going to let her do
at the present so all she could do was take care of her own problems. The
first thing she had to do was come to terms with her sister. She had watched
the
holo-vids, gone over all the research data, as well as meditating and had
come to believe that she had actually forgotten that she had a sister, due to t
he trauma of her mother and what she thought was her sister's death. Now she
had to try and re-establish a relationship that at one time had been a close
and loving one, or so the vids showed it to be. The question was how to go
about it. She leaned her head back against her sofa and tried to relax,
instead
all she could do was think of Sunni. The name kept running through her mind
like a mantra...Sunni...Sunni....Sunni....

Work was no longer keeping Melanie's mind busy, so she had decided to her
luck with the rock wall in the ships' gym. She was hoping that the physical
strain of one of her favorite activities would somehow help refocus her mind.
She was hoping that it would also give he something to do besides staring at a
computer screen. Stepping out of the turbo lift and heading for the gym,
Melanie stopped. Sunni.. She turned around as if the voice had come from
behind
her. Sunni... Turning on her heel Melanie stepped back into the turbo lift
and
ordered it to the officer's deck. A few moments later she was in front of
Skyler's door ringing the chime.

Skyler was still resting on the couch when she heard the door chime. She
wasn't expecting anyone at least she didn't think she was. "Enter." She sat up
and waited to see who appeared at the door.

When the doors parted Melanie walked into the room. She wasn't sure what to
expect, a passed out Skyler, another fight, but wither she knew it or not
Skyler was calling out to her and Melanie needed, wanted to respond.

Skyler stood up, surprised to see Melanie standing there. "Come in. I
suppose it's time we talked and attempted to figure things out. Here are your
things including your bear, still in one piece." Skyler handed Melanie the two
boxes and the bear. "Would you like something to drink?"

Melanie placed the boxes by the door but kept the bear she'd named George,
tucked under her arm. "Tea would be nice, thank you. You looked surprised to
see me. I didn't think you realized what you were doing."

Skyler walked over to the replicator and made some tea and handed it to
Melanie and made herself some water. "I am a little surprised to see you, what
was I doing? I thought I was just resting on the couch. Apparently that is not
the case or you would not be here." She was trying to be civil and polite but
everything was still somewhat confusing to her.

"You were calling out for Sunni." Melanie explained as she accepted the cup
of tea. She couldn't explain why she was able to hear Skyler if Skyler wasn't
projecting to her. She guessed she really look into this being partly
Betazoid thing. The tension between the two women was thick but it was
bearable.

"Ah, that would explain it then. If I was calling out or projecting my
thoughts to Sunni and you are Sunni, it only makes sense that you would come.
That's the joy of being Betazoid. I hope I didn't interrupt you from something
important?"

Looking down at the gym clothes she had on, Melanie couldn't help but smile.
"No nothing important. Is everything ok?" She asked as she lowered herself
into one of the near by chairs. She watched Skyler closely, wondering if their
eyes were the only thing they had in common.

"You needn't worry, I am not going to attack you like last time. After
watching the holo-vids and going over your research as well as doing some
meditating I have come to the conclusion that do to the trauma of what I
perceived as
yours and mother's deaths, I had totally blocked your existence from my
mind. I am sorry if I have in any way hurt you by doing so. I now realize that
you are Sunni or Soliel and that you are indeed my sister. The question is,
how
do we go from here?" Skyler looked at Melanie and could see pieces of
Celeste in her face. She wondered what all she had missed while she was
growing up
with another family?

"You can't blame yourself for blocking out the hurt, Skyler." Melanie told
her. "I guess as far as where we go from here, it's up to you. I'd like to get
to know you and have you get to know me."

"That sounds all well and good, but I still blame myself. I should've done
something to find you instead of letting you be raised by strangers or left
alone. I was the older sister, I was responsible." Skyler got up and started to

pace around the room. She had to keep moving because she didn't know what
else to do. She still hadn't talked to Georgia and that was going to be almost
as hard as this conversation was. "How do you make up for lost time Sunni?
Tell me that."

Melanie watched Skyler pace for a while. "Georgia was told I was dead
Skyler. Besides you were only a kid." The pacing didn't stop and Melanie
actually
looked down at the floor to see if there was a runt in the decking. "I was
raised in a good home with loving parents, so you don't have to worry about
that. And we don't make up for lost time, we can't get that back, but we can
pick
up from here and look forward to the time we have now and the time we have
ahead of us."

Skyler hesitated for a brief moment and then continued on her mini marathon.
"But I want to know what you were like as a kid, I want to know all about
you, you seem to know all about me. I am not good at relationships and this
one
isn't going to be an easy one. It is one I want to pursue but I am not sure
how to. My mind is still in a jumble I suppose, if that makes any sense to
you at all." Skyler finally stopped and sat down in a chair and stared at the
floor.

Skyler's pacing was making Melanie feel tired and it nearly made her laugh.
"I don't know all about you, Skyler. I know that our biology matches that's
all. We'll get to know each other slowly. I'm more then willing to work at
this. I know it isn't going to be easy, nothing ever worth having comes
cheap."

Skyler looked at Melanie at smiled for the first time. "I suppose that's the
best we can do. I will warn you now that I am stubborn if you haven't
already figured that one out? I just have one question for you for now. What do
 I
call you?"

Melanie returned the smile. "Georgia's calling me Sunni.. Call me whatever
your comfortable with."

"You are not making this easy. What do you want me to call you?"

Melanie laughed. "It isn't as hard as you think, Skyler, you called out for
Sunni and here I am."

"I suppose it isn't, I suppose it isn't Sunni.....
